What is this Flugtag.
Thanks,
Rick

Is this the human glider competition at Harbor Island or the convention center. Is it pretty entertaining or is there a big turnout by water with boats and bikinis being the show. Trying to gauge if it's worth the trip around from Anclote River...

Thanks,
Rick

i was trying to go to the RED BULL Flutug in philadelphia and it turned out they cancelled all of them except tampa and that was temp cancelled ...now rescheduled to this day. I guess Red Bull pulled out or something???

tampa is supposed to be the biggest in the world....if you havent seen a flutug event in person you guys need to see it---excellent to watch from the water. Usually 12pm to 4-5pm extermely entertaining

A friend renting a double decker pontoon type boat that will have a full bar and food. Should be a party barge for sure. Went when it was here a few years back and had a blast. Did a table at Jacksons last time around but i think the boat will be the bigger party this time around.

I went over to the one in Miami last year and it was a non-stop scream.
Got there 3 hrs early to get a good shooting spot on the rail near the jump-off point...

Here's the slideshow from the day.

Anybody have a dock or know a place I can tie up overnight near Davis Island???

CigDaze 10-05-2011 06:47 AM

Looks like we'll be in town this weekend after all, so we should be there by boat.

Terry, unfortunately I don't know anyone on Davis who can lend you a dock.

Bob, let me know if you end up taking the boat up. I've wanted to check one of these out and couldn't make the Miami one. Wouldn't mind being one of the "bodies" :)

Be glad to Jordan. It's been a while so will get in touch. With our shorter days will be tough to get back by dark but will see.

You can call Jacksons and see if they might allow. Long shot but you never know.

Everything was booked long ago. I'm staying at the Mariott and they have docking for the very reasonable price of $250 per night....

Are you kidding me?!?! Holy heck! It's 20 minutes back to St. Pete, you could have stayed at the Vinoy for less.

Hot damn.... Talk about sticking to people for a night slip.

salesmanship 10-05-2011 01:17 PM

The room is reasonable but a wee bit of price gouging on the dock.

Indeed. That's nuts. The last time I booked a slip there it was like 70 bucks a night.

CigDaze 10-08-2011 11:07 AM

Negative Ghostrider, the weather is sht.

Not a good day over here at all. It's been blowing a steady 30 knots since last night. Storms coming our way. I said to hell with it and cancelled.

For those who went, let's see some pics when you return.

THIS AFTERNOON
EAST WINDS 20 TO 25 KNOTS WITH GUSTS TO NEAR
GALE FORCE. BAY AND INLAND WATERS ROUGH. NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS.

TONIGHT
NORTHEAST WINDS AROUND 20 KNOTS. BAY AND INLAND WATERS
CHOPPY. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS.

Here ya go.
The weather was actually pretty good all day.
The boaters on the other hand need some anchoring lessons.
It was every boat for themselves throwing anchors in whatever direction was handy.
Most boats seemed to carry 1/2 lb anchors tied to clothes line.
The basin is very hard to get the anchor to set and everytime the wind blew most boats broke loose.
All except for mine of course so most of the day was spent trying to fend off the other boats from crashing into us.
Other than that lots of sights including this unusual method of paddle boarding.
Not sure I'd do the raft up again but we had a good time.

Thanks Terry. Glad you had a good time. Sorry we missed you guys.

That's exactly what made me apprehensive about doing this in winds like that. I know what these people are capable of especially after boozing all day.

On a serious note we did put the boat through some extensive stability testing.
