Sold boat in less than 24 hours!!
I listed my boat on a powerboats for sale site and wow a guy is sending me a check for a thousand dollers to hold the boat. He is sending his agent to check the boat out. I wonder how many other boats he has bought like this. I should just play along for awhile and see what happens...

Not a day goes by where someone doesn't post one of those "is this a scam" posts....I like your sense of humor. ;) |
E-mail looks just like that except he has a different name.

I run ad's on craigslist almost continuously and they allow you to re-new them every 3 days. Within mins of doing that I get identical, dumb as replies from the same people for all my ad's not realizing all the ad's are from the same person.
Normally is like, "let me know location, I can pick up". I have an ad offering to trade my pick up for a van and get the these replies. These just want your e address for spam. There are help wanted ad's on c/l for people to do this. Also get them identical to what is posted above. Some people are just stupid too ;) I have a current add for a drop on (dressed) O/B powerhead. I have pix's of the p.heads and the complete motors (twins) showing how clean they are. Started getting calls about "the motors for sale". Title of ad says "powerhead" but still get calls. They think are buying two virgin '99 250HP motors for the price of a p.head. When I explain the gig they then ask if I know where they can find a pair of motors. I then laugh and ask if they mean for that price and what they expect to get for it. I added a sentence as first line of ad, in capitals with asterisks saying "AD IS FOR P.HEADS ONLY, PIX'S ARE ONLY TO SHOW HOW CLEAN MOTORS ARE". and I still get the calls! Have gotten the same, non english speaking Miamian's (plural) , multiple times who only see the pictures of the motors, do not understand the english term "powerhead' and have to have their english speaking friends call. One french guy has done it twice! Some people need to stay inside, off the phone and off the computer! |

Scam
Yes its a scam, they send you a counterfeit check and then tell you you to use some of the money they sent you to pay the agent coming to look at the boat. They try to get you to do this before you realize the check is no good. They use counterfeit Postal Money Orders and Certified Bank Checks.
|
X9, I have had maybe 7 of these over a couple years. Even got em in regards to stuff posted on forums from time to time. Good luck with a legit sale!
|
Yup, got several when I was selling my boat. I just sent their email addy to a spambot site.
|

Heck, it just amazes me that guys on here even have to ask if it's a scam. :picard1: |
If the so called "agent" shows at your door step I would not say two words to him. Just kick his ass, I highly doubt he would take you to court for any damages.
|
check
I let them send me the check, they wasted my time so I return the favor by making them spend the money to send me the check, plus its one less counterfeit check off the market.

Got this one today: Question is this a scam:lolhit:
Hello, Thank for the prompt response, I'm okay with the condition and price of the 2006 Sunsation MCOB.. I will have my secretary process and mail the payment of Money Order to cover the cost of purchase and the mover's fee will be included to enable pick up company to schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up of the item at your location after payment has been receive and cashed as am completely satisfied with it. I will need your details to mail the payment immediately.... 1. Name to be on the Payment: 2. Address to mail payment to: 3. Cell number: Please note United Parcel Service do not deliver to P.O Box and i will not be mailing payment to one, My mover will be coming over for the pick up right after the payment as been delivered and cashed.. Kindly delete the posting as am totally committed to buy this from you. I look forward to hearing from you asap, Don't worry about the shipment the shipment will handled by my shipping agent. I am waiting for your swift response. Thanks for your co-operation. Regards Scott |
I got the same one, and i dont even own a sunsation,
|
I had a guy actually call me several times and discuss payment and him sending me a cashiers check, etc. etc...
I knew he was a scam all along but let him send me the 38K check anyway just for fun. It was actually drawn on US bank paper and looked fairly legit.......took it to my local Usbank and let them have it.......... it was of course bogus. I am amazed at the lengths these people go to. He was calling me from Norway and trying to arrange the sale blah blah blah... Bottom Line, if it sounds too good to be true............. And if they are not from the USA, 99/100 are scams. |
I got the same one too
