Keel gelcoat was pretty scratched up on my 382 from the previous owner beaching it here in the southwest as most do. I just can't bring myself to do it. Much easier to exit and enter the boat if you have a little anchoring skill:

There used to be a product that resembled an indoor outdoor carpet. It attached to the davits on the bow of the boat on either side...when you beach it was hooked up and dangled in front of the boat in the water. As you beach it runs under the boat and wedged itself under the bow. When you leave it will come out and then you can remove the pad. I used a piece of carpet and bungee cords.......worked great. I was beaching a 430 Carver on river gravel.

here in the pacific north wet! all our beaches that we can access by boat are cobbled
i always beach just be carefull
my hull hasnt suffered that badly and its nothing that cant be fixed

I worry less about scratching the gel-coat than I do sucking up sand and crap into my impellers and clogging up my motors.
Gel-coat is cheap, but that doesn't mean I'm going to beach boat if I can anchor it off instead.

LOL! Reading this thread reminds me of the no shoes, no food, no smoking, etc. etc. threads.
A boat is a depreciating asset. Just like a car or a truck, it's going to show signs of wear. A few scratches on the bottom isn't going to have a huge impact on value. Particularly on a 15+ yr. old boat.
I try to keep my boats in as good shape as possible. But, you can't turn back time.
Oh, and they say a sanded bottom makes you faster!
