Battery Boxes
I need two metal battery boxes with lids. Not to be used for bateries but I'm sure they would be perfect. I have weight in the bow(lead shot) and I don't want it to bounce around so I was going to mount a box in each pickle fork and put the lead inside. IDEAS? Otto

Hey 36 spectre,
Here is a little rigging trick from the masters. Use workout weights and mount them through the center of the weight. |
Guys two great ides that I have not heard before. OSO never lets you down. How would you go about mounting to the foward bulk head.Otto
|
Why not just put two sealed batteries up there- weight off the transom and weight in the bow where you want it.
|
Did one job a while back where they did not want the weight to be seen at all in the boat, So I made a simple thick Paste of Resin, cabosil, milled fiber and buckshot Filled the Keel and up the stem knee I shaped it to once again resemble the Hull then glassed over and re finished the area with Interior gel coat. untill this day I do not believe they Know there is 200 pounds of lead in the front of the Boat.
Best Regards:) |
Too long a run for cables(32 feet to starters)Voltage drop, charging is a nightmare, battery switches and cabling would be a thousand dollars. But thanks forthe idea. Otto
|
Steve but it makes it hard to change the weight for sea conditions.
|
I was just reminiscing about adding weight when I read the post! If you want a variable use a water tank
best Regards:) |
I'm in a hurry and want to do it myself. Probably will put balast tank in over the winter.
|
PVC sounds like the trick. You could use that expanding foam to hold it in place and have a removable cap on the end. Would work with water as well.
|
How do you guys go about figuring on the correct amount to use?
|
Get CG from builder, hang boat at CG by a strap and add or remove weight accordingly.

Hi Otto,
I knew I would find the info. I got the boxes from Taylor, I think the number is 800.821.3600 The battery box is solid alum. removable top. and comes complete with mounting hardware. the top is removable. I made a Alum angle going down one side of the box and then under it. bolted the angle on the front of the bulkhead, and then bolted the bottom of the box to the angle. even if the lead shot bag breaks, the shot will stay in the alum box and not roll around in the sponson. Credit for the idea of the battery box goes to Philip who gave me the idea at Skaterfest. Philip say hi to Kim and call us together at the shore soon. 609-978-6350. Get me your numbers and we'll make some plans this weekend. Otto

Philip, So our pictures are hanging up at merc high performance, if Dennis was smart he would hang up the pictures of Kim and Ania not the two ugly mugs of ours.

Otto,
What do you know, they do have a site. http://www.taylorvertex.com/batkits.html Try this, the boxes are there. I pm you my number, but here it is, cell, 973.214.9686 office is 973.838.3000, home? where is that? never seem to be there. I am trying to get my motor done for this weekend. we are going to run NYC if it is allright. Right after Skaterfest a new powerhead went on, but there was a problem with that one, Wed. they put a dressed powerhead on, and they are going to run it tomorrow. If everything is allright we might make NYC Poker run. Philip |
Otto, you are right, it does look like a mug shot, all that is missing is the numbers on our chest. did you look at the boxes?
|
Philip, I'm ordering them now. Thanks, Otto Weekend plans????
|
If Tony does'nt get it right this time then calls us and come on down.
|
Otto, call me if you get a break in your schedule tomorrow. If we don't get running we will make a plan.
