Regarding the firewall. Turn the truck around, and make the hole fit snugly around the trucks front end. Voila... firewall.
I have an assortment of smells in my garage, ranging from different fuels to various chemicals. Not sure I want that in the house.

Additional thought: get a power tailgate ram and module connected to your remote alarm. Put an extra alarm remote in laudnry room. She can fold tailgate down for laundry convenience without using handle.
