Probably not...there was sometimes just a heck of a lot more of them in a row, for much greater distances, when racing truly "Offshore". :-)

Of course in reality, the "waves" everyone discusses here aren't really "WAVES"....

Regardless, GREAT PICS and THANKS for sharing!!

Am I the only one that wonders who was SHOOTING that video?

I love Evolution too...but I will say we got tossed out of the boat a lot less when we were still on all fours....there are some negatives to this upright walking Evolution thing the young'uns forced on us.

But yeah, pass that pipe this way...AND the coffee too...in the old days that is what we called "Designer Drugs" .... LOL

At the expense of ruffling those of "us" futuristic types, I'd rather hear tales of yesteryear than those about some high horsepower "offshore" boat running a timed mile on some lake.

Sorry, running laps on a closed circuit has never interested me, no disrespect to those that undertake that pursuit. Maybe the "me's" are on to something considering the lack of support for the sport today.

Wasn't it Jay from Naples...or maybe it was Sharkey?? :-)

But Yeah, I wondered the same thing...also wondered if it was "Movie Magic" or not.

Regardless, it is a reflection of what it can be like in the REAL Offshore World.

Tobacco stained teeth missing, tattooed, hairy, muscles bulging, scraggly beards, brawling, nasty, cussing, and that was just the women!

Bear in mind that neither the Bikini nor the racing jump suit had been invented at that point. Racing uniforms were usually bear skins, and in Odell Lewis's case, the bear was still in it! My first raceboat was a hollowed out missionary.... but I ramble. THE AVERAGE WAVE HEIGHT IN THE 1956 NASSAU RACE WAS 133 FEET, AND THAT WAS IN THE FLATS! If you don't believe me, ask Sammy James.

The thing I love about Brownie, is that he always has his priorities in order....note above, that he Capitalized the word BIKINI.

And here is a shot of Sammy James that he speaks about....doing his thing back when the waves were much smaller, as we can see here......a picture is worth a zillion words.

Wish we could find the original and enhance it...would make a great poster !!

Cheers,

Dave
