30'

Bar none, the best all round 30' boat for rougher water or bigger lakes is the "Thunder" that were built in Illinois by Bob O. Run almost 80 with 500's and will run thru more water than most 35-37''s.

Looking for some opinions from you guys on boats around 30 foot. Gonna spend most of my time boating in south Louisiana on rivers, Lake Maurepas, and Lake Pontchartrain. Looking at the Baja 29 outlaw, 32 Fountain Fever, Sunsation 32, and Formula 292. I have been doing some research, but would like some info from you guys and gals who have some first hand experience on these boats.

So far I really like what I have heard about the Sunsation 32 with small blocks. Seems like it's economical (insurance, gas, price), nice rough water handling, and a top speed that I could live with.

And please don't try to advertise for a boat that you have for sale. Looking for opinions not advertisements... Thanks in advance! :drink:

Y2K with big power. Nice looks, fast single
Not known for being wave crushers, but for where youll be it would be great.

If you like the twin small blocks also look at a DONZI 28ZX.

I 2nd that, Superboat Y2K is the way I would go! I had one with 800hp and Konrad drive and that boat ran, and for not being a wave crusher, last year or the 2 years ago I did the Royal Purple Poker Run and it was the roughest that Lake Pontchartrain has been.Lots of boats did go out or broke on that run, but I made it across and did the run, lots of fun boating in that area by the way. So check themout they run great have alot of room in them and good looking boat that you wont see them all over the place.

I agree, that would be my pick as well of what you mentioned..

another option, that will be slightly larger and I feel handle Ponchatrain better on those not so good days would be the 33 Active Thunder with small blocks..or my choice is outboards..less money, less insurance, easier maint, and hits 70+...just throwing that out there.. Good Luck, its always fun boat shopping. Jeff

Ah, so you have been on one too! That 31/32 hull was a radical performer. You can still find 32 Active Thunders for sale. I think there is one here in the classifieds.

+1 for the Y2K. I moved down from a 31 Formula and boat on the Chesapeake. So far there have been no days when I would have gone out in the Formula that I did not go out in the Y2K. It does not beat down the water like the Formula but flies better and is easily as comfortable. Wife thinks so too. And my speed is the same with one of the engines from the Formula. Also since it only weighs 5200 wet it is great to trailer. My 2500 barely knows it's back there.

More info here:http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...king-30-a.html

The Lavey Craft is a true 29', with single a 525 efi, 77mph any time, 79 with perfect conditions, I pay $840 a year insurance for mine and it really shocked me how it sips the gas. I trailer mine also, and the boat EXCELS in the rough. You might also want to look at the PowerQuest Revenge 30', big fast boat, good in the rough and it's priced right for what you get compared to others.

Good Luck

For quality of build, finishes and resale you can't beat a sunny or Formula.
