Donzi sweet 16?

I am sure that I am not the only one that is curious about this boat, but I am asking anyway. What does everyone on here know about these boats? The are great looking boats, and from what I hear are great running to. I read in Boating MAgazine that they are one of their favorite all time boats. Which brings me to the question, are they really all that great top end? in chop? thanks

If you want a thorough answer, post this in the Donzi section of the forum or go over to donzi.net.

I have a sweet 16. It is actually my second one. It has a 305 small block in it. The answer to your question is yes. It is a boat to own at some point in your life. Yes it handles the rough. And yes it is fast!!!

I think some dude named Geo or something like that here in CT has his over 100? I haven't seen him post for a looong time.

Scott B 10-29-2011 06:44 AM

Geo had an X-18..

16 a capable boat, if we can help you with any questions please let us know...

The Donzi classics are special. I've owned many of them over the past 30 yrs, 16's, 18's and a new 22. My favorite is the 18 2+3. With the 24 degree deep v hull they handle big water better than words can describe. When I was young, I would take mine way out off the coast of Gloucester Ma. There's nothing like playing in hurricane swells in a Donzi classic. -Like dirtbike riding on the sea!:drink:

Macklin 10-29-2011 08:23 AM

I had a 16 Classic. Bought it mainly for skiing, but also as my very first go-fast. That it did. Was not well suited for the Chesapeake Bay though. Just too small.

The boat is a hand full at speed, but loads of fun. Never knew what attitude it was going to take when airborne, which was very easy to do. Had a few friends who refused to ride in it with me because I loved to make it fly. :evilb:

Definitely an attention grabber. I think that boat turned almost as many heads as my AT.

Great boats
Only limitation is size They ride great and are as much fun to drive as a boat can be.

I got the chance to snag a ride in Parnell's 16 recently. What a phenomenal boat, and restoration. If he offers you a ride, grab it man that boat is just perfect..

thats impressive, I'm not sure about the 16, would love to drive one, I've always said when we make it big I'm gonna have a 38ish cruiser and raft up with my 22 classic,,, kinda like rolling up to your motorhome with your vette

boatme 11-01-2011 05:02 AM

great boat only draw back is the wrap around seat for passenger side

Our 16 had the wrap around seat and it is terrible for riding in at speed My advice get one with a standard passenger side seat

TBAG 11-01-2011 08:23 AM

Gosh I love the entire Classic lineup, would love to have one as a project someday.

1987pachanga22 11-01-2011 08:52 AM

It’s not a Donzi but Hornet Marine is making the 16 or at least a very very close copy with updated interior and you can get it made to your preferences. Worth checking out http://www.hornetmarine.com/pages/welcome.asp

VetteLT193 11-01-2011 10:02 AM

Take a sweet 16 to a poker run and dock it next to a few million dollar boats and watch all the people on the dock check out the Donzi.

There is just something about a Donzi classic... period.

Wow, pretty cool! I hadn't seen or heard of Hornet marine before.

I have a 1995 sweet 16 with the 4.3 and OMC drive on it and runs 40mph all day in 2 foot chop . Just an awesome little boat . I use it more than my 38 Cig flat deck.

If you don't pick up your buddie's 16, look at the 18 2+3's. That extra 2' makes a nice difference in the cockpit. Great run about boats. If I lived on the water somewhere I would love to have another 18.

Scott B 11-01-2011 11:17 AM

There's only one Donzi 16, though others may imitate they will always be just that, an imitation...

I do prefer the later, 2 & 2 seating when running, but for just hanging out the wrap around is more roomy IMO.

Audiofn 11-01-2011 11:47 AM

I have an 18 Donzi but have been in a number of 16's. They are just FUN boats. You don't have to worry much about them and they perform well. The only thing I don't like about them is that if you are in wind swell or anything like that they tend to put the nose under when off plane. Once I filled mine up to the bottom of the seats! If you are on plane and running it is amazing what they can go over. People do love them that is for sure.

BigBoater 11-01-2011 02:28 PM

I tend to come off slow anyway...but all small boats get water in them, that's not a worry. I was not really thinking about getting my friends, but after all the replies it is intriguing.... How well they do in 3 foot chop? Maybe even 4?

Nauti Kitty 11-01-2011 06:29 PM

4' wave is pretty big for a 16 or 18 foot low profile boat no matter how good they are

NK

BigBoater 11-01-2011 06:51 PM

True.. But I find it fun to play around in at times
