I love the older wood motor yachts but it's also good to see how far wooden boat building techniques have come .. Some of the old ones could take a pounding but some just were not built to endure unless they are maintained with an open check book by talented craftsmen. Here is a pic that's been around since late 70's but still enjoy. The day George C Scott went surfing at Morro Bay with "Mojo". The boat made it back in with some upper deck damage. I heard it was later stretched to 100' and is still a charter in Newport Beach.



Sad story on Pizzaz a 65' CC that went down here in Mi. a few years ago. It was just purchased for 400+k and was to be chartered. The story does not mention (probably insurance reasons) that numerous people questioned the bow planking before it left port in Saugatuck and that the cause was probably plank popping. Just before it was purchased it had bow work done.

If anyone around the Great Lakes has seen any of Marty Sutters Yachts it's mind blowing to see the love and funds it takes to restore and maintain wood. Here is link to "Canin" out of Harbor Springs. It was in South Haven last summer - unreal.
