Just picked up a 2003 Mustang Cobra
 

I know this is a boating forum, but most of us are also gearheads.

I just picked up my new, red 2003 Mustang Cobra. Man what an engine, it is cramed in there under the hood like twin big blocks in an old Cig.

Haven't had a chance to take it out and run it hard yet, too much rain here. But the thing launches, the payments are bad, insurance worse, gas mileage worse yet, but I can't wait for the tickets.:D :D :D :D

Congratulations, the Cobra's are a blast. I had a 94 Pace Car and a 96 Convertible, different motors. The 94 still had the 5.0 where the torque was down low. Got tired of using my knee's for arm rests, but I miss the performance aspects. Enjoy!:cool:

We got one of the first off the line, supposed to be the first factory 'tang to beat the Camaro. According to Car and Driver, it is quicker than a 'Vette.

Will post pictures when I get them.

The sorriest part is it is my wife's car. She wanted a Lightning, but with two kids we needed the back seat.

29Outlaw: When and where did you see a mustang cobra run a 12.67 in the 1/4 mile???? Not unless it was the Cobra Mustang R which was rated at 385hp & 385 TQ which it still could not keep up with the 1st year Corvette ZO6.

Boatinbill: Not to be rude I greatly doubt that any Mustang even the Cobras and the few 500 made Cobras R's will ever beat a Corvette or ZO6 Corvette from the factory showroom.

I have a 99' Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am WS6 package with only 3648.2 miles on it I've taken it to Norwalk race way park in Norwalk OH. I heve only run 10 passes, 5 in Spring 5 in the Fall. My best ET. has been a 12.687 backed up by a 12.692 in the Spring and a 12.662 backed up by a 12.671 all untouched and off the showroom floor. BTW it is also an automatic with the 4l60 transmission. I will not touch the car due to warrenty and of the fact that the 99' model year was supposed to be the last yeay of production , GM only made 7,678 Trans Ams/Ram air WS6 Trans Ams and 30th Ann. Ram Air WS6 Trans Ams either hard tops, T-tops and Conv.

Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine had 12.67 @110. Speaking of T/A's, I had a 1996 WS6. I put about $10,000 into it including LPE heads, ZZ9 cam, AZ Speed&Marine Headers, etc. Best I saw was 13.6 @104.

That is an absolute killer car man. I'm glad for finally came up with the answer to the Camaro/Firebird, especially since they are going away too HAHA. The 03 Cobra is a wicked car, I think they finally got it right.

The 2003 Cobra is a supercharged 4.6L V8 rated at 390hp and 390ft lbs.

The various mag's with performance numbers are at the lake (as is the car, boat and wife), I'll get them this weekend. But it has been reviewed in the last three months in Car and Driver, Motor trend, Automobile, MM & FF's among others.

All show it quicker to 60 than a Camaro SS and a Corvette.

I was just getting ready to ask 69 if he knows the new 2003 Cobra comes with a nice Eaton blower sitting on top.

BTW - early testing has shown better exhaust on that setup brings HP up to around 420.

Since everybody's talking about power, did you see the new Dodge Ram SRT-1? it's a regular cab 1500 with a drivetrain straight outta' the Viper. That's 500HP!! They say it handles better than most sports cars, largely due to it's 24in wheels:D

Ok, OK my bust was not up to date on the 03'cobra Rustangs. That I did'nt know that it also had to take a Eaton blower to rack up those #'s and beat the F-bodied GM cars and the Vette ZO6 5.5 edition 420 HP and 425 TQ.

Just like my RATA WS6 the book numbers on 1/4 mile ET's are high Popular magines rated ET's around 13.25- to 13.55 for the F-bodied cars at 107-111 mph and 13. teens for te ZO6 at 114mph.

I know what my RATA WS6 is capable of doing I have the dail in slips and 1 speeding ticket with a 90 day liscense suspension to make my case.

1 question. Does anybody remember the GM answer to the SVT Ford lightning in 2000? The lightning had if I remember right had a 5.4L triton V-8 with a blower making 360hp that all I can remember on these trucks.

A: Chevy brought out the Silverado SS: Reg cab sport side,2wd lowered some 18" Billet Spec.rims big meats for tires ect. driveline was the 6.0 V-8 GM tuned heads, intake,Cam,Crank etc. the Engine made 452hp and 475 TQ at the Crank without a blower. They sold the 1st 200 immediately in the US then quit selling them here. Now you can only get them on the Mexican market, everything was smog legal GM just chose not to sell them here.

Geez , Not to make you's guys feel bad ,but my 1969 chevy c10 short bed did a 10.87 ,127 mph. And that was still spinning the 18.50 X33X15 rear tires. Not exactly stock..496 dual quads , 700R4 , 3.73 posi rear , three inch exhaust all the way back from the hooker headers , tubbed rear , 2" drop front spindles , factory A/C , tilt column , 6 way power 60/40 bench seat. It also has a 1998 stepside bed that looks like it belongs on it. Painted 1999 GM Victory red with tan interior. Catch me if ya can;)

I kind of like what Ford did. For years Ford and GM have been adding 5-10hp with each new model year trying to stay even with each other and getting nowhere in the process. Finally Ford says “Screw it…we’ll just slap a blower on there and get it over with”.

Its all fun and games until a certain 11 second 750 hp single turbo Supra I know of shows up!!:p :D

I had a Saleen Stang and loved it. Great fun - hard on fillings. Autocrossed it a few times.

Had several Vettes - '76, '82, '94, '99. All were allright, but none were as fun as the Stang. The '99 was, indeed, faster than my Saleen, but not as fun.

I would love a Z06, though.
Also a supercharged Cobra (4.6) or Cobra R (5.4 supercharged).

Have any of you driven a Lightning? I spent a week in one running a 8# pulley on the blower and a Motorsport exhaust. What a riot! Factory hp was 385, after mods a few more. The noise under boost is a dream.

I've heard the 2002 Harley Davidson edition F150 will get the lightning engine, 380HP.
