Should we stop flying after a plane crash? Should we stop driving after a Motor Vehicle Accident? No!
Horrible accident, but the parties involved loved what they did, and were full aware of the risks.
The last thing we need is to ask any governing body to get involved in the design of a private sport. It would be different if race boats were used to move the public. Private parties involved in a private race. Let the owners take the steps they feel necessary. Leave the government out of it.
Just my opinion.

Yes to your 1st two questions for a short period if fatal!Your missing the point I'm thinking it's not to easy to see out of those canopy boats add rain rough water&wind that won't be a race it will be a crash derby!Sad week end it!

So then I assume what most people are saying is that we as Americans have turned into a culture unlike the "Ancient Romans" and that we should expect/deserve our entertainment at any cost ??? Or like the Romans would do just throw another christian to the Lions and that will keep the angry crowd calm.

Yes, I do race........

Geico choose not to run on Sunday...nobody forces the racers to put in the water. I choose not to run the sunday race in Orange Beach last year...it happens

Jiggsy 11-14-2011 11:42 AM

Many of the Sunday’s contenders bore the race numbers of Big Thunder (100) and Page Motorsports (31) on their sides or transoms. A flotilla of speedboats that were not in competition tried to hold an impromptu requiem in the infield between races, but were escorted away by Coast Guard boats.

The only two teams in the Super Cat class — Stihl and Motley Crew — decided to honor their fallen comrades in their own way: by completing only three laps of the 10-lap race — one lap for each of the departed racers. Then the two rivals motored slowly up and down the infield, waving to spectators.

Said Motley Crew driver Scott Roman: “It made everybody forget for a brief moment all the horror of this week.”

Its a personal decision, and as an individual I believe showed a ton of class.

Make adjustments to the safety equipment, or find you own way to honor what happened this weekend and the passing of 3 great men.

I am not a racer, just a fan. I absolutely hate that three great men died racing at Key West this weekend. I had briefly met and talked with Bob Morgan at the races at Orange Beach in 2005. He was very kind to take time to explain his awesome 4 motor Skater to me and I always loved watching him run that big boat. All the other racers were great and I love watching all of them race.

I have always enjoyed speed and I have driven cars and boats too fast. Years ago, I chose to drive my Porsche 155 mph and I did that more than once. My boat is nowhere near as fast as the race boats or a lot of members personal boats but it would run 80 and that was fast to me. The fact is that I and I alone decided that I wanted to go fast. No one made me go fast and I am sure that law enforcement would have loved to slow me down.

The bottom line is that it was my call to go fast and that was my choice. Our great racers should be the ones that make their own decisions whether or not to race.

Rip to all who perished and my prayers and thoughts are for all the family and friends of our great racers who are now running wide open on smooth water in heaven.
