Mercedes E55

Anyone ever own one of these ???? I am interested in buying one and I know this board is the place the right info !

Maximus 06-14-2002 12:24 PM

Just sold

I just sold my e 430 last week , bought the S500. I needed more room.

E55-
Great car
Not real comfortable
Old body style- New e-class alredy being built.
Fast but not real fast, roll on power is best.
too many old body E's on the road to feel special.
Wholesale #'s are still too high to make them interesting
Look cool
For the most part ,only Merc owners know what they are.

once again -lot of money for an outdated bodystyle.

If the cost of the E55 is close to a M5, I would take a close look at the BMW! I love MB but if you are looking for perfomance the M5 is much faster..

F34PC 06-14-2002 03:20 PM

What about the BMW X5 4.6si ?

WarParty41 06-14-2002 03:25 PM

Here's one that was sold last week at the auction I attend. Remember, this is a WHOLESALE PRICE.

2001 E55 AMG 12,048 Miles Black $54,000

I have a sweet 2000 E430 Sport in Glacier White with Java Interior, current mileage is 21k. It's my personal driver and it doesn't have a mark on it anywhere. Let me know if anybody is interested.

big diff between e55 and a sport suv. Why not go for the latest and greatest Porsche Cayenne.

War- sounds nice .You could really drive a 430 for ever it's a great midsize hp sedan. What's next?

I agree w/ you on the M . Have you heard about the new M7. It looks unbelievable.

e55? That's one damn nice car, and it's fast too.

I don't think you can go wrong with that pick!

BADA BING 06-14-2002 06:41 PM

F34PC, I work for BRABUS and know the E55 very well, the vehicle is an overall great car, the only thing the vehicle seems to lack is in the suspension, as far as performance changes this and the wheels are the items I have found that customers change the most.

If the price is right get it, but like the other guys said the new chassis is on its way, the new W211 will be released in the states this September, below is the link to BRABUS if you want to take a sneek peek at the new W211, the current chassis is a W210 in case you did'nt know.

GOOD LUCK:cool:

BadaBing

You got any leads for a blower setup that I can make work on my '99 SL500 (3V)? I know Lorinser makes a bolt-on kit but don't know how much custom crap is involved. I don't want to crack open the mill, so I am not really looking for the usual Brabus approach (bore/stroke/port/cams).

just got a 2001 e55... it is FAST... 345 hp.. it is almost as fast as my 94' 911 turbo!(400 hp)... new body coming who cares!... this car is BAD... if you can get one at a decent price 60,000k(8000 mi.) or so get it!...handels like a dream... M5 one year old is still 70k+!... trust me you won't be disapointed... ted

Mercedes Benz E55

Dear F34PC,

Rice Hauler here,

I own a 2000 E55. It is my daily driver and I can tell you it's a great car. I have approx 78,000 miles on it and the car has performed flawlessly.

Someone had mentioned the M5 as an alternative. I have a close friend that has one and it too is a terriffic car. Very Sport oriented. but I always remind him that when we show up at a club together they always park me first.

I also have the ML55 and have had that further modified by Hartmut Feyhl at RennTech. Engine intake and fuel injection upgrade along with Headers and Exhaust work. Good for another 60 hp and 60lbs of torque. They Also dropped the suspension 2.5in and added 19in wheelsStiffer adjustable Koni shocks and heavier duty sway bars. The guys that run my shop for me really like it and It runs great but the build quality is not up to the rest of the MB line.

The AMG line for MB has been a nice addition to the overall line and the strength of it is that 5.5liter engine. The flexible service system works and is amazing at how it calculates the service interval. No more remembering when to service the car.

My only caveat is that my girlfriend usually drives this car When she is not in our SL 600 AMG, and after a week of her driving the "intelligent engine/transmission" relearns her driving style which is best summarized by the movie "Driving Miss Daisy" so for the first100 miles or so all my shifts are off etc.

If you can find one and the service records check out go for it. Where else are you going to get Corvette/Porsche performance and 4 doors.

Hope everything works out for you.

Best,

Rice Hauler

34PC,

I agree, the E55 is a great car. If you can get a great deal on the current body style, go for it. The new body style will be hard to get, and go for a premium. I have a new CL500 SPORT and the new technology does take some getting used to. The car shifts and brakes according to what it thinks you would "like" to do, so it takes awhile to learn how to drive the car. The new body style E class looks great, but is it worth the difference in price to you?
P.S. Rice Hauler, you have too many toys!

Whitey 06-15-2002 11:34 AM

Hi F34PC, I am a MB tech here in Mich. The E55 is probably one of the more popular cars with the techs in our shop. True it is dated in styling but one nice thing is that all of the bugs are gone in the latest models. I have also learned to never buy the first year production...no matter manufacturer. Later Dwight:D
