I would use a paint sealant. Google Detailers Mist. Their sealant is amazing! I couldn't believe the gloss on my fountain! It made the finish look like glass!

Wax it! Unless you are racing, who cares.

I have used Pledge Furniture Polish for alot of years, on the bottom and transom area ,great shine, very slick finish, washes off the exhaust and water film very easily, speed difference is not noticeable, but i'm not racing.

power boat magize did a story on this .no wax !! it slow you down .i lot of race guys sand the bottom and gain 2mph .if you like racing other boats and have big power it helps .i did it to mine . i got 1.6mph on my boat .i gps my speed when i change things on my boat. waxing the bottom of the boat is a waste of time. the wax comes off as soon as you start driving it . hay if it make you happy wax away

I would think that saltwater would do a number on the wax, but with freshwater, who knows. My boat gets the bottom polished and waxed twice a year. It looks great and makes me happy. Does it need it? No, but it sure looks great and is part of my maintenance schedule.

Kiss Cote works great on the bottom and you pick up a little speed.
(1-2mph) |

If could get the Phantom off the trailer easily I would wax the bottom of my Phantom, too. |
Wax. I use Ardex ocean Polymer Sealant. I'm a fanatic, I've tried everything and nothing stands up to salt water like this stuff and gives the hull a great shine.
I have no connection to this product what so ever, just the best IMO. |

I agree, it never made a difference at speeds between 81 mph and 86 mph for a 27' Magnum Sport my father owned for 19 years, maybe it will slow down a faster boat, but in actuality the Magnum never slowed down at all. He waxed it primarily to make the boat easier to clean. We had boated on the Delaware river sometimes which can leave a scum line, with a waxed bottom, cleaning is easier. Here is the Magnum I was talking about.

Thank you for the compliment. My father sold the Mganum in 2005/2006, not sure when it was, it could have been2004. My father passed in July 2008, but when he was alive he always waxed, cars, boats, ect.
The Hairy Canary is still around, the current owner keeps it in Brick Twp., NJ. Maybe I will see you on the river in the Phantom, I still need to wax the bottom for this upcoming season. |
