Naturally aspirated Skaters video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4AcTX6PbEQ&sns=em

Rod Karnofel's ex APBA Super Cat 36' Skater (former Fountain/Mercury raceboat) w/ 763ci naturally aspirated/single carb/pump gas motors and #6 Mercs against my 588ci naturally aspirated/single carb/pump gas motors (Sterlings) and ASD #7s. Obviously the outcome would be much different if we were in rough water! And by today's standards with huge hp blower/turbo motors, these boats are slow.........but they're still fun.

low_psi 12-04-2011 10:25 PM

Still looks like they were both moving at a pretty good pace

JIMKID Motorsports 12-05-2011 05:33 AM

Yes, actually it was Jim. I was pacing Rod at his top speed of just over 140 as we came into view, then accelerated as we passed the crowd of people. The last I looked down, my GPS was just a click over 150 @ 6,000 rpm. My boat will spin these props to a best of 6,300 rpm, so you do the math as to how fast my boat is. BTW, you've never said how fast your 30' is with those LS7s in it???

Offshore Dreamer 12-05-2011 08:24 AM

Fantastic Vid, I loved the boats passing the blow boater, thas the best part! They sounded great!

thumper038 12-05-2011 08:37 AM

NICE!! N/A :coolcowboy:

johnlomant 12-05-2011 09:00 AM

How much power to run 150 plus that must be 800 plus. 150 is pretty fast for only 588's. I had a 598 with 750hp so I guess they could be 800 plus.

He has about the same power as your motors.

Double Rigged 12-05-2011 04:33 PM

That is one beautiful 30' Skater that runs like a mother!

chris@uga 12-05-2011 05:12 PM

It's all about the drives!

Well, there are a few of these boats. All have the same bottom and the power is very similar between them but the speeds sure are not close.

Just think Louie...this one most likely won't have to go straight from the manufacturer to Tom's to get the paint retouched!

Can't wait to see it...that thing is gonna haul some serious ass. Might even be as fast as Joey's Fountain...;)

AppSysCons 12-06-2011 10:01 AM

Dale,

Beautiful boat....and runs like the wind!

When Bruce Bullock showed me your boat, that was
what convinced me to order and build a 30, of my own,
which I have has since 2007.

I have had some very initial conversations with Bruce
about my next boat, and Arneson's are among the
talking points.

Again, beautiful boat Dale...go fast...go safe!

Yeah i hear that Mike.. But you know give Tom a good look at it and he will find some reason for a blueprint job or something!! You will have to convince Joey to use that boat next summer.. Come on down to the kkk river and hang with us, John would love to see his old boat go flyin by...

Is that the boat that hit the DCB and was rebuilt?

You must be buddies with Bob Teague...........it is the boat that GOT HIT by the 32 DCB. And unless you are a complete newbie to this sport, the accident my boat was involved in five years ago has run it's course over and over and over again. So what is your point in still bringing it up?

johnlomant 12-07-2011 06:24 PM

Just wondering my buddy bought the DCB. Thats a nice boat one of my favorites. No harm meant.

Wow, someone struck a nerve.

Anyways, beautiful boat, love the paint.

JIMKID Motorsports 12-08-2011 08:41 AM

hay dale im disputting your speed your 30 is by far the fastest 30 to date the reason i dont post speeds is i have good insurance on my boat and want to keep it its fast enough for me and thats what matters your boat is what inspired me to build one and took it to the next levell with never done motors and drives which are working awsome

I am just curious as to the #s you are running with your small blocks, because my first first choice of inboard power was small blocks as well. The reason I didn't go with them is that Mike D'Anniballe talked me out of them. He said that to run the speeds I wanted to run (both cruise and WOT), the motors would have had to run on race gas and would have required much more maintenance than my 588s. Since my boat stays on a lift at my dock, race gas was out of the equation, and that's why I ended up going with the low compression big blocks. Your formula of 30' cat w/ small block power is definetly cool though, and I'm glad you're happy with your setup.

i thought one of the arnies failed and the boat turned into the path of a few boats.. this boat was the first to start it all at the big cat poker run... please correct me if im wrong.

flight club 12-08-2011 09:59 PM

Rik, I wanted to try Arneson's on my new 412 with the new merc 1100's. Could only buy merc package. My next one is going to be a 368 or 388 with Arnesons and merc 1075's. Already have the 1075's.
