Ouch!

Steve 1 06-16-2002 08:19 PM

Wow a tough one to explain, The water levels look low from the old water lines is that normal?

Best Regards

sfiron 06-16-2002 08:30 PM

Water level is 70' below where it was 2 years ago. There are lots of unmarked hazards. The white rock was all below the water level before. I think they might have hit the outcropping that the stern is resting on first and then whipped over against the cliff. I got there a few minutes after it happened.

NASTY HABIT 06-16-2002 08:35 PM

OUCH !! soiled shorts for sure !

Steve 1,

No, the low water level that we have now in Lake Mead is not normal! Two reasons for this; First, the last 4-5 years we have not had the usual snow fall in the Rocky Mountains. The main river that feeds Lake Mead is the Colorado River. Secondly, Southern California has been rennovating their aqueduct systems and their reservoirs, practically draining all of the water out of some of them and now, Lake Mead is filling them back up!!! That's a lot of water to drop vertically in 2 years, especially when Lake Mead holds more water than any other man made lake on the entire continent of North America!

Steve 1 06-16-2002 11:56 PM

Thanks Boat Nut:)

Best Regards

SHARKEY-IMAGES 06-17-2002 12:00 AM

Thank God they are all ok...

Steve 1, I think they will need an estimate...Interested? ;) :D

boat nut 06-17-2002 12:01 AM

You're right Twinn29, that model just had its debut at the L.A. Boat Show in March.

I do find something interesting about this accident. The water depth in going through the narrows, whether the south end or north end, is about 400 ft. deep!

Steve 1 06-17-2002 12:07 AM

Sharkey maybe we could get Boat Nut to drop off some of our business cards on the Boat !! Got some long long air lines ??

Best Regards Sharkey

:)

thisistank 06-17-2002 12:22 AM

Thats gonna hurt the re-sale value!!!:D

I wonder if that was the owner of Hallet. He keeps a few boats up there on Mead in a hanger in that little airport outside of vegas next to the lake.

SHARKEY-IMAGES 06-17-2002 12:44 AM

That's one way to put a BEAK on your boat...

FunHome 06-17-2002 01:38 AM

Dude, That Sucks!!:( Glad they are alright!!
It's a shame to see it happen to such beautiful boat!!

Laveyman 06-17-2002 03:30 AM

I'm glad to hear they are alright. But...What the heck were they thinking driving that close to shore at Mead. Even though the lake is 500+ feet dep in areas, and at least 400 feet deep through the narrows, you are foolish to assume the water is deep enough that close to the cliffs when the water levels are as low as they are now. I can only think that they were distracted in some way and went head on into those rocks, or possibly some type of mechanical error. Damn shame for such a nice boat.

Playn 06-17-2002 07:40 AM

oops:eek:

klmken 06-17-2002 02:36 PM

Can you say Bentboat.com in 6 months??

seanclong 06-17-2002 03:15 PM

I think they should leave it there as a warning to others....:D

Frequency 06-17-2002 03:17 PM

Noticed the boat's name is "Move N On". Guess they have to change it to "On the Rocks":p

26scarab 06-17-2002 06:36 PM

It now looks like a Hallet 33ft :D

mxz800 06-17-2002 06:43 PM

somebodies gonna hear about this:eek:

cigarette1 06-17-2002 06:52 PM

Unless they have 10'-20' more water by late Sept, I don't think I'll be making the SCOPE trip .... the water is at a scary level right now.

I am glad they are ok, did they spill their rootbeer?

Gary Anderson 06-18-2002 09:28 AM

Laveyman
Thanks for the link. I have got to get that poster! And the profound statement on the bottom explains my life.
Gary

Laveyman 06-18-2002 09:48 AM

Gary,

No problem. That website is pretty cool. They have some seriously funny chit on there! I used to have a bunch of them set up as a slideshow for my screen saver. People just stand there and watch em scroll by.

Truth be known, I really didn't want it to be a link. I wanted the picture to show up. I guess I screwed it up somehow. Is it beacuse the IMG Code is off?

seanclong 06-18-2002 09:59 AM

Laveyman- One more thanks for that link!!! :D

Laveyman 06-18-2002 10:02 AM

It's a pretty funny site. Maybe I should make it a separate thread!?!???

boat nut 06-30-2002 08:01 PM

Well..........Here's an update on this crash. The marina that the boat was towed into and impounded, is where i keep my boat. This is what i was told yesterday when i was at the lake;

The people in the boat made a sharp turn, boat spun out, did a 360 degree spin, ejected ALL 4 people in the boat, and the boat continued running until it ran into the mountain wall. Boat did have lanyards, driver not wearing them. Driver of the boat was given a breathalyzer test......he FAILED the test!

SHAKEN Not Stirred 06-30-2002 08:15 PM

Hmmmmm !!!!!

Well.....The local word is that it was a few things....

(1) New Boat or Not Knowing Your Boat, .....you pick !!

(2) Decent Power, or Going Too Fast, ......again, you pick !!

(3) Incorrect Rigging or Just Trimmed-up Too Much !!!!

Any or all (3) can lead to an "Out of Control Boat"

Glad they were both OK........Have a Safe "Independence Day"..

SHAKEN Not Stirred 06-30-2002 08:18 PM

Yep !!!

Hey BoatNut,

Seems we heard similar things......Although, I did not hear about the booze !!!!

Mitch 06-30-2002 08:23 PM

My first thought days ago was new boat haulin ass into cove witha step bottom it either hooked a chine or spun ,out having boated at mead for years i know the water level has nothing to do with this wreck , alcohol well thats another issue but it wasnt my first thought just my 0.2 Mitch

Steve 1 06-30-2002 08:36 PM

The Boat spun out? It was doing exactly what it is supposed to do, as we spend a lot of time “Loosening” the bottom up and cheating friction a little for the straight line speed. With steps and vents, I would not fault the boat! The Driver yes! High speed turns that happens to be an acquired skill and drinking that makes it bad for the rest of us.

Best Regards:) :)

Havasu Hangin 06-30-2002 08:54 PM

Hmmm....sounds familiar...

...kinda reminds me of a story I heard......like the time the rep took a potential customer to a lake...hooked the boat, and ejected all 4 passangers. The boat continued on for a couple miles at around 40MPH until it ran aground.

As for the boat, I heard they buffed out the bottom, and put it in the LA Boat show this year.

As for the potential customer, he didn't fare so well...broken arm.

Any guesses on the builder or the lake?
