575SCI's/Superchillers

After several delays my 38ZR Donzi is close to delivery, several friends are saying I need Superchillers on the 575's,cheap horsepower and no downsides. Comments or suggestions please.

Robert,
I say just do it! But we are going to have to get new props.

Intercoolers.

Just so you know. Its not just a bolt on process. The 38 TS Cigarette we did at our shop was alittle more involved. We had to add seperate water pickups on the transom, had to upgrade the fuel system from the tank to the engine, totally eliminate the stock fuel system, plumb the intakes alittle differently, order 2 new blower belts special because they are longer, and a few more things. The intake worked pretty well. The Cigarette ran 89 mph all day long and now we have gotten 97 out of it working with fuel curves and exhaust temps.

Dont know if all this was in your plans but it took alittle while.

Use the whipple , it's a better intercooler and it is more compact ( 3 1/2 inches lower)

If for no other reason but to make package live longer I would do it!

I have 575's on a 36 open cockpit skater with #6's. I have a two modified ECU's from Arizona Speed & Marine that I have not yet installed. Are you changing the pulley to get moor boost?.

I have been told by many that the LEE intercooler works better then the super chiller. Not sure on price difference . And yes ,it is not a bolt on thing . Don't forget engine hatch clearance too .

I thought i`d chime in here and commment also.I have Superchillers and 671 blowers on my Top Gun and I could not get it to idle without fowling plugs with water passing through the intercoller at less than 2000 rpm. The very cold lake water plumbed into the intercooler was turning the atomized fuel back to liquid. I installed water pressure valves that I got from PFM, the Superchiller folks, and with them installed there is no flow until 3000 rpm. It idles MUCH better now and has eliminated plug fowling.

Good luck, Kurt.

I understand that lower temps mean longer engine life,so why doen't Merc include it ? It should be to their advantange since the engine has a 1 year warranty. Can't be price, they know people will pay pretty much whartver they ask anyway.
