Downtown42 12-29-2011 05:36 AM

Mid 1990's regular was about 1.50 per gallon?

prostock85 12-29-2011 05:46 AM

Got my license in 98. I remember gas at the off brand stations around 89 cents/gal in NJ. Sunoco was maybe 1.05?!

GLH 12-29-2011 06:14 AM

Gas was cheap when I had the same Fountain...

Biggus,,,,, think if we by another red Fountain the price of gas will come back down? Maybe worth the effort.

hotjava66 12-29-2011 06:36 AM

I remember it being 87 cents when I got my license, not all that long ago early 90's. When I was a kid we had an old gas pump at my dad's shop that only went up to $5.00. I remember asking him why, and being told that when he was younger there was no way to put five bucks worth of gas in anything.

Watched Smokey and the Bandit the other day and in one of the chase scenes he drives pas a diesel sign and it says 47.9cents.

Redhook98 12-29-2011 09:43 AM

There was a short period when I was on travel for the Navy in 98/99 that I saw gas for 68-cents a gallon in NJ. I wanted to slit my tank, fill it and my trunk up when I saw that! Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I never saw it over $1.20 or so for 20+ years. Everything was good until the 2000's....

Fond memories....... Now I know why it was acceptable for my old 1983 340 Sea Ray Sedan Bridge to guzzle 30-35 gallons an hour at cruise..... (twin old school 454's)

And you could get as many speeding tickets as you wanted as long as you just paid them. :bsflag:

Around '98 or so, gas was .75 in King George, VA. Sheetz and Wawa were always competing.

I just sold a Honda Civic that I had for 14 yrs. During that time I filled it for less than $10, and then later for more than $40.

Remember back in 99 when i had the Parasail biz i was buying diesel for the big boat for .83 a gallon and it pissed me off that i had to pay 1.26 for gas for the inflatable shuttleboat and that was on the water.

So please expleane to me adain Loosie why de diesel is more than gas now.

Interceptor 12-30-2011 01:40 PM

I had gas this morning

ThisIsLivin 12-30-2011 02:08 PM

Oh man, you guys make me really feel old. I remember buying Premium for my mini-bike when I was a kid for .26 cents a gallon. My .50 cent allowance used to last me all week in gas! Better yet, I can remember when the airports used to let me pull my hot rod Camaro on the runway to fill up with Av gas for $1.04.

Toffen 12-30-2011 02:23 PM

Hi,

In 1998 I had a 25' wellcraft, it cost met $100 to fill up the Boat and the tahoe I had to pull it with.

Boat had a 65 Gallon tank.

Truck had a 30.

Gas was $.80 a gallon. In fact I still had a few bucks for beer!

Redhook98 12-31-2011 12:10 AM

The US is going to start exporting gas (not oil) for the first time in 20 years. Yet we are still above $3 a gallon. Go figure....

World market.

Same reason Canada wants a pipe line, right now we are the only ones buying that oil, get it to the gulf ports and they can make more.

When I was in high school (80 to 82) I think I was paying .55- .65 per gallon in my 70 SS chevelle, and making $9 per hour part time.

Oh yea and someone would pump it for you!!!!!

Living at home, no bills NICE!
