New from Cincinnati

After lurking in the shadows, I figured I might as well say hello.

I have a 92 Sea Ray 200 open bow, that I've had for about 10 years now. I've been around water / boating since I was a kid, and have always loved it (31 now). What got my kick with power boats was taking a ride in a friend of my uncles Black Thunder about 15 years ago, and always like being around them, but haven't really had a chance to get a ride in a real go fast. I've gone to the Lake Cumberland poker runs since 99 (except for the last 2 years, Moto GP races) just hanging out and getting pics.

Here is a couple pics of the boat from last year.

As an aside, after looking around at some members boats, I'd say I've got some pics from any of the Cumberland Poker Runs. Both of the 05-06 LubeJobs boat, and the OSO cig from 2006.

I'm on the east side. Boat mostly on the river from Cincy to Portsmouth on the weekend or the Meldahl dam area during the week .
Just bought my first Fountain a 27. Can't wait to get it on the water. I have a nice Cobalt for sale.

4mulafastech 01-05-2012 06:50 PM

Welcome! You obviously have taken great care of your ride the last ten years. That is a clean Sea Ray! Nice to see.

502ss 01-05-2012 07:20 PM

Ok, I have to ask. Is the boating in the river really where it's happening? I spent a week in cinci this past summer while visiting a division of the company I work for, I went down to the river several evenings just to check things out and saw not one performance boat on the river, maybe I was in the wrong part?

I was thinking of transferring out to cinci in the future but was concerned about the lack of good boating areas?

For the guys that live there what do you really think of boating around the area?

502ss 01-05-2012 07:21 PM

Oh and welcome to OSO Hydrant! :drink:

Baja_342 01-05-2012 07:43 PM

Lots of performance boats around here. Spring can be tricky. The river can get pretty high with lots of floaters. Usually settles down by mid june. Good boating through october. Deep water everywhere. About 80 miles between dams. Decent bars. Good food and nice people.:coolcowboy:

jmoore1225 01-05-2012 08:06 PM

502ss exactly what baja_342 said!!! Right thru downtown it doesn't seem like many boats, go east or west where the bars & restaurants are & you'll see plenty of boats... Several ok size lakes within an hour or so of cincy. Just always remember Lake Cumberland is only about 200 miles south from cincinnati!!!! If you dont know much about Lake Cumberland, just type in lake Cumberland poker run on you tube :-)

Oh yeah, definitely heard of lake Cumberland but like you said, it's 200 miles. Not really an every weekend place to go.

What are the lakes you mention? Have you done any boating on them? Are they big enough for a 30' twin?

Hydrant 01-05-2012 09:31 PM

Thanks everyone for the hello's.

If I'm going to the river it's usually towards the Lawrenceburg / Aurora area. Nice water down that way for skiing, tubing, and wakeboarding. I've been close to Meldalh, when I put in at the Fieldhouse, and close to Markland. I've met up with some people at Belterra, when I shoot sporting clays at Elk Creek and that part of the river seems pretty good.

I am not a big fan of Caesers or Brookville anymore. Those lakes especially on the weekends are horrible for trying to do anything on the water. If I do go to the lakes its taking off at noon on a Tuesday when no one is there.

I didn't get to Cumberland at all this year. Decently busy with work, so I didn't want to take any time off.

Sunsation0032 01-05-2012 11:58 PM

Expect the river to be full of logs and trash after every heavy rainstorm for about a week. I have also heard alot of boats hang out for concerts on the river also.

Welcome, all the bad boys are here just go down to LBYC on Saturday afternoon or Sunday and all the go fast boys will be there. We move the operation up to Manhattan Harbor on Saturday because the eye candy is better up there. then go back to LBYC for the bands Saturday night.. As was told before the river clears up by mid June most years.

blckkat 01-06-2012 08:20 AM

welcome! another Cincy guy checking in. I had no idea there were so many OSO guys here in Cincy! Your Sea Ray looks mint! I hit Brookeville and the river every now and then. although I'm an oddball in that I'm usually hitting Erie (grew up boating there).

502's Like many have said the River around June one it settles is great boating LBYC it the spot also Drews River Saloon, and concert floating is fun as well! And there are thousands of people who go to Cumberland and Norris lake(242mls) Every weekend 3 1/2-4hrs and its sweet! I go to Norris every other weekend and River boat the rest! the local lakes around Cincy are puddles, would not even think of putting a 30' on there, unless ideling all day with non boating boaters is your thing. Also alot of boaters try to stay out of the City area of the rivers cause the law always hovering there!

+1. Of Ceasars and Brookville, I've been to Brookville once in the past 15 years for a test and tune day in early spring when the river was unusable.

I'm on the west side so I usually go towards Indiana. Occasional blow through town, but once the sun goes down I end up at LBYC. It's an easy one-eyed idle home to Villa Hills Marina for me:)

39 Unlimited 01-06-2012 12:24 PM

Welcome...Cumberland is our home base as well.

Cheers!

jmoore1225 01-06-2012 03:42 PM

502ss like a coupe others have said, the lakes are small... I've put my 32 on brookville many a times, several of us would just go over there to tube or just hang out instead of running around all the time & it actually has a nice lil restaruant on it. It's about 45min from downtown cincy.

Also you'd be amazed how many cincinatians make the weekly weekend trip to Cumberland

redsled33 01-06-2012 04:11 PM

Welcome to the board . Great looking boat. We usually boat on the river as opposed to brookville or ceasers. It also helps that I am a west slider and am only a few minutes from the river. Wednesday nights are party in the park which usually brings out a lot of boats. Like everyone else says the loud low bromley or manhattan harbor are the best places on the river by boat. We usually hit those places while we are on the river and then head to cabana1's place the cabana on the river. Great place they just need boat docks.

ImaPoser 01-07-2012 07:43 PM

Another Cincy guy. Live on west side, and have only been to brookville twice even though it's only 20 miles from the house, and only gone on the river once.
Boat now resides at Cumberland full time, and we do the drive every weekend during the season.

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 06:57 PM.
