Snaps under rub rail
 

Has anyone ever put snaps under the rub rail to secure their covers? I'm trying to find options for a new boat cover. I'm looking for a full cover to trailer with but I don't want to put any snaps in the PAINTED SIDES. What are my options. Picture would be nice.

my old boat had them under the rub rail, I thought it was a great idea until I towed it with the cover on, half of them pulled out:mad:

I guess it depends on the design. I have snaps under the rubrail on my TOP GUN. 1993 straight bottom. I would never have it done anyother way. I tow with it, its neat, they can't get bent. The only thing is when on the boat, sometimes reaching under the rail to loosen them is difficult. Best way, this is my 7th boat.

look at the baja trailering covers they have a inch or so
nylon strap sewed into the cover all the way around it
with a crank type tighting wench to make it tight.

I have a factory OL full cover that has ears hanging down about every 3' or 4' which get tied off to the trailer. It covers the sides of the boat almost all the way around down to the vee. Very, very secure and no snaps. When not trailering I dont bother tieing it down all the way. It has a line/rope sewn in around the perimeter that I just cinch up and tie off in the back to the trailer, even just using that it's very secure.

I would not want any additional snaps added to my boat and even so I would not trust them for trailering with the cover on.

I am member'n some Sunsations that had the snaps on the bottom side of the rubrail?????

Correct. The factory bow and cockpit covers had snaps under the rubrail.

i am telling you guys...there is a market for magnetic covers. imbed the magnet or metal in the fiberglass. simple, clean, and effective!!!

Cig tried that, dont think it went over to well. I would think it would put to much pressure on whatever material was in-between the magnet and the paint, probably end up with little scuff/dull spots wherever the magnets are. Kinda like the damage a car bra does on a the wherever it touches the paint.

The bow cover on my Fountain is that way and works great.

hmmm...what would cause friction between the cover and paint if the cover isnt used during transit? i can understand a car bra being abrasive on paint because it is always chattering and moving. but when a boat is stagnant on a trailer, the cover doesnt move/chatter (unless its windy)...thus no abrasion.

^ Wind, the operator taking it on and off, neighborhood cat jumping on the cover, etc... And a little bit of dirt/sand (on the cover or paint) and you have a high wear area that will be visible in no time.

what about raised magnets that potrude through the paint. haha...i am desperate here!!!

You mean ones that look like SNAPS?
