Looking good Mark!

Ended up not using the big oil cooler from you. I'll use it on the 502 for the next boat. Did not want to go too big on the oil cooler for fear of not getting the temp up high enough.

Anyway, mine is getting close also. Ran wiring all weekend. (must have lost about 10 lbs in this heat). I'll post some pictures when I get my mess cleaned up. See you on the lakes..

Nice Boat NH! Nice work also. Keep us posted!

NASTY HABIT 08-26-2002 04:39 PM

I suppose a bilge full of fuel would not be a good thing ???????

glad i was not smoking when i flung the doors to the shop open...looked to be the tank side of the fuel fill hose..was very corroded and the hose was far from new...I hope that is what it is...I filled the tank yesterday..maybe it was sitting with the bow low enough to back up into the fill hose...I HOPE I HOPE I HOPE...

otherwise see my next installment of fuel tank R&R

Hello Mr Tank....your a$% is mine !! now just have to pump out 70 gal of gas.... anyone got a flame thrower ???

it's nasty in there... glad I'm doing this now....am thinking of building a 50 gal and using the extra space for a flush mounted cooler in the floor....I don't think the wieght change will hurt too much ...anyone.????

wannabe 08-29-2002 03:01 PM

Nasty

Get a clean 55 gallon drum and a pump for the gas. Then 3- 5 gallon cans for the rest. You have to empty the tank, so save it. You shouldn't have any problem with the 50 gallon tank in terms of weight. Since this is less weight the better. The cooler liner is a good idea for the spac in the floor. Just remember to leave yourself room to get it out afterwards.

Wannabe

NASTY HABIT 08-29-2002 03:20 PM

thanks.....found a clean drum at the shop...the rest can go in my trucks....

found a 2" bung for the fill and a 1/2 " for the supply .....looking good....should be done by tomm and back to my water test...i hope...

beerock 08-29-2002 04:03 PM

hey nasty habit, you might want to switch that volvo drive to a transom pick up. http://www.donzi.net/photos/d003.jpg

I take it thats a speedmaster drive?
if it isnt where can I get a lower unit like that?
I want a cone lower unit for my new drive.

From what I have heard the volvo drives have air leak problems for the water intake.

I had a water intake problem on my boat for 1 full season and a 1/4 of this season. I almost toasted my motor so many times because of it ( I built my motor so it has sentimental value)as soon as I installed my pick up problems went away.

I just wanted to add to this post...

if you do switch to a 55 gallon tank you are going to move the weight FORWARD in your boat..

there will be more mass further forward in the boat with a full tank then with your 70 gallon tank, I think?

ahh what do I know.

NASTY HABIT 08-29-2002 04:48 PM

Beerock ...haven't had any water pickup probs as of yet ....i thought about doing that though ...tooo late now ..well never too late but I'm done with that part of it ....I'll have to keep a close eye on the gauges...

that was my concern.....losing the 20 gallons towards the stern...although the cooler would always be full of ice and whatever our frosty beverage of the day was....kinda hard to figure the weight dif there....i could add some wieght in it;'s place though i guess.....

Sean 08-29-2002 05:29 PM

stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't cut that boat..yer gonn ruin it!!!

Don't you have two coolers on each side of the engine...yeah, I know, they're a pain in the ass, but I think cutting that boat up may detract from it's value later...just my .02;)

beerock 08-29-2002 06:07 PM

im lost

NASTY HABIT 08-29-2002 06:11 PM

I'm not gonna ...am building an identical tank...too shallow down there anyhow...

it was just one of my hair brained ideas:eek:

thanks for the reality check though......

Sean 08-29-2002 07:24 PM

wheewh...thanks NH...I have those all the time...I was gonna cut an anchor locker in the deck of my 28SS and then came to reality...it's great to have ideas...shows some creativity...glad to see you've come to your senses...:D :D

NASTY HABIT 08-29-2002 09:51 PM

oh god !!! the things i think of...:o :o

Looks good NH. Who made the tank?

NASTY HABIT 08-31-2002 07:51 AM

I was suppose to build it....but when i got to my friends shop he had 2 guys waiting to jump on it...got the old one out about 10 am and the new one in at 3 pm with a trip to hooters for lunch in between.......www.doublermfg.com he and his family were in the boating industry forever....till they sold out down south and he started this biz....they used to make the nicest Radar arches in the industry among other things...abolutely awsome people.....!!!!

NASTY HABIT 08-31-2002 07:21 PM

Thanks Mr... my pleasure...I love this stuff

test run in the morning...i think enough has gone wrong at this point to warrant a smooooooth break in..although I'm ready for anything that may occur...I'll just fix it..:) ....i think I better go check the drive boot one more time...

just for the record the lady can weld , do some wiring trouble shooting...and hand you the right tool..but whatever you do don't let he rnear a caulking gun.....4200 everywhere !!!!!
