My sunny came with a purple bimini top, good quality prob hardly ever used. I hate purple & was thinking about soaking it in a tub of black dye for a few days. The material is some type of nylon or canvas. Any suggestions if it will turn?

I would be afraid that the new color could run and then stain the boat.

Another idea is get a spray paint can of upholstery dye and just spray it on. I did that on old boat seats when I was a kid and it worked quite well.

bimini tops are cheap just order new fabric to fit your frame or have it made, and i'll say it before anyone else does I am great at removing bikini tops but never tried dyeing one!

As for Bikini tops ! If she's got a nice rack, don't waste time trying to dye it, talk her into leaving it off !!

If you are talking about a Bimini top and its made from a synthetic fabric like sunbrella, I am not sure it can even be dyed outside a factory !

Some places they just paint the bikini top on.. no need to dye the old one.. you can't even tell the top is missing..

If it has waterproofing, your gonna have a hard time dyeing it with water based fabric dye, Tried this on a cover once, only thing that changed color was the stitching.

Id take it to a coin laundry and wash it to remove any waterproofing and loosen up the fabric.
Dye it in a tub or garbage can.
Then run it through a commercial washing machine again to see how the dye set and make sure it won't bleed on your boat.
Maybe repeat if its not dark enough then waterproof.
Worst case if it doesn't work have a new cover made. Let us know how it goes.
