I had my 23ft 3D scanned some years ago & then drawn in Delcam.

I use now sketchup pro

Sketchup is pretty cool, just started using it for some building design. Have you ever tried Rhino for 3d rendering?

Yeah I have Rino to, but since I got the hang of sketchup, I am only using this. In the pro version you can export 2D & 3D to Autocad files and so flange lasering etc becomes easy

Steve 1 01-22-2012 11:44 AM

What are the plans for the bottom ?

diesel2fast4u 01-22-2012 01:39 PM

Stepped bottem is the way to go nowdays :)

I would go for 3 steps... but I am open for suggestions

Keeping the Horse in Front of the Cart?

I may be a bit off here, but I know you are re-designing and building diesel power for this project. I should think you should get the power and its overall characteristics, weights and packaging done first before you get to far into hull length and design as the power and its operational charactersistics may have a huge effect on the final hull size, design, drive types and positioning?

Just my two cent opinion and suggestion as a power developer and builder.

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

No, the diesel are going in a 23 ft waterski raceboat of my design.

This I got out off the fridge.

It was designed (hull sides & deck) from the original 23 footer the have the same looks.

Customer ran out of money so we never got to the hull design.

I still love it so wanted to share

here is the small one :

Cool, I think I will upgrade to pro and see how it works.

I really like the treatment on the nose of the rendering you posted. Kind of a reverse beak so to speak. It would lend itself to give a longer running surface in the same way a beak takes it away :D

Looks good

???? :party-smiley-004:

Explain,...

I already stated that the bottem wasn't touched, just the deck & hull sides to lokk alike...

Steve 1 01-23-2012 07:34 PM

On the Vee bottoms we use a 10 station analysis for discussion and it looks like, that chine is running straight well foreword on the drawing.

Yes he does as Just4Fun said. This is the boat Martin designed the bottom for. To give you an idea how good this hull is, it weighs about the same, has the same power and runs the same speed as a 31' cat I drove some years ago.

"With twin Mercury Racing 700SCi engines under the hatch, a Sunsation 36’ XRT—the latest addition to the Sunsation line and the builder’s first 36-footer with the twin 700-hp engines—ran 114.3 mph according to Wayne Schaldenbrand, the president of the Algonac, Mich., company. The 1,400-hp boat made its debut during the Desert Storm event in late April on Lake Havasu.

The stepped V-bottom, which had significant design input from former offshore racing champion and driving school leader Tres Martin, was built for Jared and Heather Morris of Iowa. Former Powerboat magazine technical editor and lead test driver Bob Teague piloted the boat during its test runs on Lake Havasu. Schaldenbrand was on board as a co-pilot/observer.

“Bob said it was rock-solid,” said Schaldenbrand. “I mean, it’s still a boat running 114 mph so you still have to drive it, but Bob said it felt and handled great.”

The second 36’ Sunsation with twin 700SCi engines, which was ordered with a custom cabin by buyer Al Ober through Doller Offshore Marine in Hollywood, Fla., is currently being painted. Once the boat’s graphic are finished, it will head to rigging.

“It’s about three or four weeks from being complete,” said Schaldenbrand."

Your scaling appears to be off by a factor of 10 125852.5mm would be 413ft...

Yes, the engine set back & swim platform design isn't finished

So you scaled it to 413ft? That does not make any sense.

What is the original length of the design if I may ask?

I don't understand your point really, with the platform & standoff it would make 43FT

original is 6m80, I can scale it to whatever I want as I have a 3D

MIskier 01-24-2012 02:35 PM

My point is why make your model 10x the size of the real boat you want, ie 125852.5 mm ~ 413ft.

Scaling a 22ft design to 43ft will also present problems if you don't get all of your ratio scaled the same.

???? I see you didn't read the thread.

I want the boat to look like the 22FT and stated clearly that the bottem design wasn't finished.

Looks don't make a boat handle...

I understand what you want to do but you need to look at your drawing your decimal place is off!

I never said looks make a boat handle, but when trying to double the size of the original design the proportions of said scaled model need to be the same as that of the original or it WILL NOT handle like you think it will.

Scale doesn't matter.
1 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 devided by 100.000 is still 1

In sketchup the bigger the drawing, the easier it gets, I will scale it for you to 12 meters :)

I am not scaling the V hull so I won't affect

waterboy222 01-25-2012 09:19 AM

You guys have some mad Sketchup skills.. I downloaded it a couple weeks ago.. Its addicting. The learning curve isn't too bad, it just takes time and an idea.. one of my projects.

No, if you have a gmail, you upload your pics with picasa, make them available to the world, then on the top of the message window you have the little mountain Icon, where you past the picture url and tataaa ;)

email me [email protected]

The EASIEST way to do it is to go to
www.imageshack.us, click browse, choose your pic then it gives you a link to that pic, copy it.

go to your post, click the little box that looks like mountains and a sun, choose "URL", paste and youre done.
