Diamond Plate Protection

So Im installing some polished diamond plate on a boat trailer. What the best way to treat the surface for lasting protection? Clear coat maybe? or any other materials out there like Zoop, but very expensive. Or is the best way to just polish every year?

Thanks Anthony

Diamond plate sucks!

Nah, really. From dealing with polishing fire trucks, I've learned the best thing you can do is polish it a few times a year to keep it bright and shiny. It's much easier than letting it get dull and then trying to bring it back to life. That's a recipe for misery.

I haven't had much luck with any of the sealer type treatments out there.

My two favorite product lines are Heavy Metal Polish by Brilex Solutions and the metal polish lineup from Blackfire. The Blackfire system is slick, using their pads on a DA type buffer. Maintenance polishing is about as quick as it gets.

I didnt know if that would work or not. I was thinking of just having it powder coated a color but didnt think of clear. Ill have to check with my powder coater and see if he has done this and how long it holds up.

I have seen the powdercoat clear. It looks good. It holds up well, however I don't know how well it will hold up being dunked into saltwater. You have to ask around, I am sure some will chime in. Good Luck

Clear powdercoat works in the bilge. Four seasons of boating so far and counting:

Have diamond plate on the trailer and in the engine room. Pain in the azz to keep clean. Ended up having the engine room stuff stuff powdercoated in blue, the trailer stuff, going to have it powdercoated in a color. No way your going to keep it polished looking like new going in and out of the water unless you polish it every weekend. That stuff doesnt like rags either..... Too much hassel to deal with.
