Believe it or not I work with a guy that has some kind of 26' westcoast boat, his son is a helicopter mechanic and they plan on putting a turbine in it. They bought a surplus engine and have been working on figuring out a way to do it. :lolhit:

Bill Hollister use to be the crew chief for the Wellness Plan unlimited (turbine) hydroplane. He had a snowmobile top speed record, and he used a GM 2.5L 4 cyl motor to do it. Someone came along and beat him using 6 fashioned together powerheads from outboard motors. Last I talked to him he was trying to figure out how to put a small turbine on a sled...

Haha. I told him he was f'n crazy! I know he can fab it up. I'm just waiting to see if he actually does it.

I'm not sure but I think he used the jet drive so as to not have to buy a much more expensive shaft drive.

This project shows poor hull design and limitations of the jet drive that a 24' V bottom that weighs maybe 3000lbs or less can only run 90 with 2200hp. With a prop he could probly run over 110(but who would want to run that fast in a 24' Baja lol). Hell he's probly run out of bottom already...

I like the "high speed fly by" part. What was he doing, maybe 60? Just sends shivers up my spine. OK, maybe not.

Heard he's running against Geico & JBS this year!!! Finally some competition!!

...those hulls run out of bttom at 85mph....from there on up MPH wise its a matter of how big ones balls are and how lucky you are regarding the water quality!!

i know 2 guys local that had 100+ 24 baja's ....1 got rid of his asap and the other well lets just say he's not so smart!!

Yeah, I caught that too! Still a cool project but he should be spinning a prop and running over 100. That boat can do it safely if set up right.

Obviously its not the ideal set up but at least he DID something, instead of just talking about it like some people.

The video would be much improved by just taking out the writing portion of the "high speed fly by!" If I would have never read that i would have been much more impressed. :lolhit:
