Security systems...Questions

I am thinking about adding a security system to my garage for boat storage. I dont have a phn line out there. Is there a system that can use wireless/cellular? Give me some insight into this guys.

My home security system uses a Cell activated alarm. Most companies can provide this as an options. I believe in my case it is only 5 bucks a month more to use there Cell Radio instead of a POTS.
I use Vector Security.

Cell is an option. There are also a few using the network now.

i have a radio gsm backup on my business locations, meaning i use a land line, but if someone cut the phone lines the gsm would still send a signal out. I think it was like 300 bucks iirc.

You could install a GALTRAC GPS tracker in your boat and connect the alarm notification to alarm devices in your shop.

This way you could cover the building and the boat in case they took off with the boat before anyone could get there.

If you have a wireless internet signal, Logitech make some neat systems, available at BestBuy. Web-accessible cameras with motion-sensing, IR night vision and progammable mobile alerts. The cameras communicate to the system hub through the 110VAC system, so installation is pretty painless.

Internet! Damn, must be movin' up! I hope they bring that there interwebs to our parts soon :lolhit:

I'm stuck on an air-card also...

The IP camera with an alarm would be a really nice addition, but I would still get a standard monitored alarm. Mine uses a little cell box and it doesn't cost but $5 a month extra. I would want the piece of mind that someone would be alerted if I was out of town or unreachable. I have been really thinking about adding a camera that would start recording and send me an alert.

I just have an old ADT system. It's certainly nothing fancy. Runs about 36 bucks a month. Just uses door sensors on the garage doors and the man door. Simple but effective.

Our wharehouse is on a cell phone sig with bat backup, the prob we have when the alarm goes off/testing it the signal will not tell ua zones. That usally tells us if false or muti zones triped,

Go to alarm.com, You will find dealers in your area. With alarm.com you can get text or emails when someone arms, disarms, opens, closes door or for what ever reason you want. You can even arm and disarm form a web enabled phone or web brower.
