Question Hour meters???

How do you have your hour meter hooked up?
A few weeks ago I pulled a bone head move, it started raining when I was pulling the boat and I left the ignition key on as well as the batery switch. Everything else being turned off it was no big deal until I noticed my hour meter has an additional 35 hours on it.
I was thinking of removing it from the ingnition switch (its obviously hooked up to now) and running it through the oil pressure switch. This will give true hours on motor not on stereo. Is there any reason I cant do this? Is there a better place to tie it into? Where do boats with shore power tie into?

I believe the oil pressure sender grounds it's self to the block. This wouldn't be the worst until you try to add a gauge into the circuit. If you have a gauge, then it will also read the resistance in the hour meter. I'm thinking that for the few times that it's going to be left on, that it's not worth the trouble to rewire it. Besides, maybe your meter will stick like my old one so that when you sell the boat it has fewer hours on it than when you bought it!
