Riser change --- what year???
 

Just recently purchased used (new for me and hardly used) risers and manifolds (cause if you saw my old ones you would vomit)

These are a different design, I used to have the ones with the long bolts to the manifold and the oil filter sat on the one side with the bolts through it.

I got these and it is like you have to sneak the riser bolts in there and the bolts (which did NOT come with the risers and manifolds GRRRRR) are going to be short. The risers do have the studs and nuts on the side of them for the thunderbolt module on one side and the shifter linkage unit for the other side.

Just wanted to know what the hell these things are off of and what am I supposed to do with the oil filters?
Any help, ideas, suggestions ect would be happily entertained.

note the oil lines are not compatable between the 2 different setups either

Check your risers and see if they are stainless. I know that the stock stainless risers that Merc used had the short bolts. I thought that Merc was still using the long bolts on there cast iron risers (I bought a new set last year on my old boat and they were the long style). Not sure were the filter mounts.

My 88's had the long bolts and the oil filter bracket mounted in front of the riser. Did yours mount off to the side?

Jay, you must have the stainless risers. Merc. discontinued them because of the dissimilar metals (cast iron/stainless). If you go ahead and use them, make sure you get the upgraded riser gaskets.

I have a remote oil filter bracket for the stainless riser, I recently installled new cast riser/manifolds for a friend who had the stainless as original and I gave him my spare bracket for the cast risers. The hoses are the same. I`ll trade you for the one you have.

Kurt , cool man BUT I need 2 of them so what I think im going to do is make some sort of bracket that will hold these thing off the side of the riser bolt or something.
The hoses have a pretty good range of length so I think I can MAKE IT WORK (freakin middle name lately)

Great so now I need a different type of riser gasket, Does this ever end?

It is pretty easy to make or have made a bracket for the remote oil. We had the same issues on a 1986 Scarab Panther when we replaced the risers. We made cast iron L brackets that we mounted above the bell housing (behind the Dist). Worked out really well and the filter were still easy to get to.
