I finally got my papers showing that my formula is documented through the US Coast Guard, does anyone else have there's documented and if so what all do I need to have done. Do I still need to get it registered or is the document enough to run. I still have to rename it and put the new port of call on it just wondering what else.

That is the only registration that you need. You must put the USCG registration number on the hull in a manner it cannot be removed(easily) This is usually done in the engine compartment where it is visible on inspection. I used stick on letters and covered them with 3m clear bra. You need to keep your registration paper on the boat for inspection. There are rules for sizing of lettering for name and port of call. Also required to have a "no oil discharge" plackard on the boat somewhere.
You also maybe responsible for State and Local taxes at place of mooring. I pay Kentucky property tax. Some don't need to pay, some don't pay, find out in OH.

In Oh you still have to have the state registration also, but you are not required to have a state issued number on the hull. If it is a new purchase contact the tax guy, so he doesn't have to find you. He made it very clear if they have to find you it won't be good.

If you are paying the cost to have the documentation changed you may want to weigh out the costs of just doing a state registration and not document the boat.

If your State also requires registration (like WI), I did what you did (documented boat W/O applying the state stickers & numbers on the hull) and I continually got hassled by the PoPo everytime on the water. In the mind of the Police/DNR etc, they assume that the boat is not registered unless they see visual registration stickers and hull numbers.

Even though I was legal with the documentation, I got tired of the hassle and proving that I was legal. I finally decided not to renew the fed documentation and then applied the State registration stickers and hull numbers. Problem solved.

There are a number of states that require registration regardless of it being fed documented or not.

i was stopped here locally and told that if i put the sticker on the bow where it was visible that's all they need to see....didn't need to put the state reg #'s on the boat just keep the state paperwork with the USCG doc.

That is how Indiana works also. The state gets their property tax $$ When you buy a sticker and everyone is happy. No Numbers. I've been checked once in 6 years. I really think they wanted a closer look at the girls onboard.

In WI, a documented boat is required to be state registered. No state numbers are said to be displayed
on the vessel, however your square state registration stickers need to be displayed on each side of the vessel name on the transom.

I bought the boat last year and the guy I bought it off of lived in the state of Ohio and he had the boat documented because he claimed he didn't have to pay sales tax and that was one of the perks of documenting the boat.

I was stll planning on having the registered in Ohio just not display the OH numbers. The ODNR site says that if I Want to register the boat that I either need a title or documentation papers which I just received about a month ago.

What was your time frame from submition of papers to boat being uscg doc ?
