The bottom was etched from someone using Hull cleaner on it. Every time it went in the water it would get stained again. It took me 2 days with help to wet sand and compound it back to a high gloss. I would never attempt to do this on a trailer or even blocks.

Anytime, :lolhit:

That is the easier way to wax the bottom. I'm thinking the flipping the boat part (after pulling the motors and draining the fluids) is the bigger trick though.

Drain the oil while your at it.

jeff32 02-22-2012 10:57 PM

deck is solid enough to lower it on blocks? no damage?

bulletbob 02-23-2012 05:20 AM

I have had a friends teenager on a creeper waxing the bottom of my cat. Now hes' off to college. Man I miss that kid.

pstorti 02-23-2012 06:13 AM

I always heard that waxing the bottom slows you down

It might, but no stains.:evilb:

It's resting on foam blocks at the point where the supports are under the deck.

I always looked at it as: It may be faster for a little while but eventually (and it happens quicker then you may think) the growth slows you down more. My brother is a very competitive sailboat racer and he has this jelly stuff he puts on the hull.

Just like servicing some women, much easier when you turn them over. :D

I , so far, have only run in fresh water, but, after leaving the boat in the water overnight it does stain the hull. I will give up a couple of mph to have a clean boat.

pstorti 02-23-2012 01:40 PM

has anyone proven or disproven the wax=slower theory? I'm all for a clean hull too if it doesn't slow me down.

When we get a shipment of flatboats that's what they stack them on.

Interceptor 02-23-2012 04:48 PM

My experience shows a hull kept in water will still discolor with wax on the bottom.

My father was given a tub of this wax back in the late 80's. It has been sitting on a shelf unused since then up until last year. After being applied to the hull and lower in anticipation of the few days the boat would be sitting in the slip, I was amazed to find that the boat picked up several MPH at cruise and there wasn't even the usual faint waterline stain. A quick wash/rinse and the stuff came off without much trouble at all.

It is the only product of its type that I've seen, and it works as advertised.

Marine suppliers have a 2 part expanding foam. Put a trash bag in a 3x3 cardboard box fill it with an appropriate amount of the liquids, close the box and let it set up, cut the box away and you have a foam block. I bought it from Jamestown Distributors. They have several different densities available. Rich
