Danforth anchor retrieval???
 

I have a 290 enticer and have two danforth anchors, I have the ones with the slip rings, thought about trying to use the anchor boueys this summer to ease retrieval. They have been very difficult to get up several times. What are others thoughts on this system and who actually uses them? I boat on the ohio river, bottom is mostly mud...who know what else??

we have a similar type bottom over here on the west side of Erie. Both my anchors are Fortress danforths and set pretty good. I usually pull them by slacking the line so i can pull myself almost right over them then tug straight up. Really about the only way, i do the short stern anchor first and i usually like a long lead on the bow so i'll pull myself out with the line and if i think its got a deep set i will let the boat carry some drift just past the anchor then pull up. Usually comes up with a mud/clay kinda stuff that needs to be splashed off.

I am with Dave, just float past it then pull them up. If it is really stuck in there then you can float past, cleat off the line, then power it out.

mine set great but sometimes are a pain in the a$$ to get up even if im over top of them, sometimes i will power above them to try to get the ring to "slip" up. My buddy is trying to talk me into the bouey, its already a mess with 150' of anchor line, then if i use the bouey, it will have its own line as well. Just curious as to what method everyone uses to get the anchors up. The slip ring is a good theory but Im so sure it actually works down under the water??

The secondary line fastened at the bottom works best. The slip ring is more of a hinderance than anything to me, so I cut mine off.

On the West Coast......some performance boaters don't use anchors. LOL VHF? What is that? :D :D
