Mildew
I have tried lots of stuff to clean mildew off vinyl. What do you guys use or what have you found that works best.

Whatever product you pick, use a Mr. Clean magic eraser for the scrubbing part.
My mildew never gets bad, so i just use a vinyl cleaner. |
My dads boat gets it every spring due to a crapy cover he has on his deck boat and the marina he uses never lets the boat dry out before storing it. Its the only place around his summer house and i never have the time to go do it for him. So spring time there always something growing on the back seats and the deck hatch. I usually use Star-Brite mildew stain remover....then wash it down again with simple green but it probably doesnt need it... then let it dry in the sun....then go over everything, especially the stitching that may have gotten any chemicals on it, with a 3M vinyl conditioner. I have been doing it lieke that for the last 5yrs and no problems yet.
Another thing that seems to work prety good is the Mr Clean Magic Eraser. |
I have heard people useing vinegar as well but you would need to test it on an area not seen to see if it fades colors or not.... I wouldnt use bleach...
|
Spray Nine supposedly kills it. Be sure to use a vinyl protector afterwards.
I'm trying some Kanberra Gel in my boat during storage over the winter. It's too early to tell if it stops the problem, but all the reviews that I have read are very positive. |
I use wesley's bleach white with very good results. I would test it first though on dark colors.

I had two houses flooded with 6 feet of dirty river water in 2008 that we stripped down to the studs before rebuilding. Once down, we scrubbed it with Sporiclean and it worked awsome. It kills the actual spores. Since then, I have used it on about everything including blood in the carpet, juice stains, etc. By teh bottle it looks expensive, but it is a concentrate. Check it out.
