Bones, I tell you what perhaps we should discuss our differences over the phone and not in these forums. I didn't attack you first. You brought that on. So i am wondering why you have such a hard on for me. I'm sure you may swing that way but I don't. So Dave if you wish to keep this up, let me know I'll give you a call. Nice add on the outlaw, oh ya it may have sold if you knew what kind of motors were in it. NOT 469's... I would have thought you may have proof read that add a little better seeing it's a over priced Baja. You let me know what you want to do here Mr. internet tough guy..

Hey guys great comments from all. I am glad to have seen all the answers you have given. I know I needed to know but I also felt like it was good for all to see.

It did get hijacked a little with the pissin contest but lets keep it on point if we can. If yall decide to settle it on the water I want to be in the gallery watching with a cold beer in hand.:lolhit:

Flip Flops

I almost forgot my 1st wife had on a pair of cheap pink flip flops (on a 95degree day) and walked across my engine hatch on my 2004 Mastercraft Maristar. Took me hours of scrubbing with soft scrub to get those damn pink flop prints of the vynil. :angry-smiley-038:

Some of you guys worry to much. I am out there to have fun. I don't want to worry if some one steps on my back seat or what ever. What damage is it going to do? I understand the bow (slip and fall) or the engine hatch with blower scoops and no padding (again slip and fall or even fall through) and I do ask the Coast Guard to take off their boots if they want to board me, but some of this is insane.

Now this reminds me of the time on Bever Lake and a Toon rolled.
Sherriff and Fire rescue wanted us to take them out to site.
I said Boots OFF. Fire guys said no problem, Sherriff said I will just wait
here onshore cause I would have to write you a ticket for Open container!!
Even Fire guys said he was a Dick.

Now how does a Toon roll?? never figured that one out.

Audiofn 03-26-2012 08:22 AM

I have seen them stuff. It is funny as anything!

CrownHawg 03-26-2012 08:46 AM

I've seen em roll over. Too many folks on board, they all rush to one side to look at something, then oops! Not funny til you see everyone pop up safe.

I have 3 rules,
No Shoes,, No Cigarettes, ,No Red Wine,, and I hope they ask before walking across, but some still don't get it, I always have many large beach towel covering the sun pad & seats.

nkosi 03-26-2012 10:59 AM

I think fello boaters tend to be respectful of each others property. The problem is the non-boating passengers who just don't care. At a popular spot here in the BVI where rafting is the norm the non-boaters (who are usually drunk) will walk all over your upholstery and spill their drinks in your boat. I remember once getting ready to leave and meeting a woman and HER DOG! sitting on my back seat because she was too wasted to make it across to the boat she came in.

But the truth is if you worry about that stuff too much you won't have any fun :)

Since I don't have a sunpad or swim platform, I bought a few large rubber backed bath mats. They are 5' long and 30" wide and I got them at JC Penny for something like $20. I lay one across the engine hatch and one across the deck. It provides a soft, non-slip surface, designates a safe crossing path, and protects the boat
They also work great for the girls to lay out on them as shown in the picture (see the mat across the back of the boat).

Wasted Income 03-26-2012 12:20 PM

I see cigarettes and glass bottles...both no-nos on my boat.

RT930turbo 03-26-2012 12:41 PM

I have one of these on each side. One of my buddies also gave me a static cling decal that "whites out" the feet part of the decal ;)

At Lake Powell last year a State Ranger came along my boat and was not going to let me put the fenders out. He said his ribi was rubber (had a huge rub rail on his boat) and would not stratch my boat. Let's just say I was not in agreement with him and got into a slight argument before he finally let me put out the fenders.

I also put towels down if any are going to be stepping on my interior. I am somewhat "anal" regarding the interior.

How about the tie up process itself? How many times has someone approached you with no fenders and no lines out? How about fenders but they look like tampons?! How about they have fenders out but are placed to where they might as well have not put them out in the first place?! How about people that pull up and get close and then cut the motor(s)?! How about boats that approach at ramming speed?! :angry-smiley-038:

All of the above happened in one incident with one boat last year at Jobbie Nooner.......... It is like they guy tried every different way to piss me off....... I now make sure I am never the last person in a raft line. That way I don't have to worry again about the above mentioned guy tieing up to my boat....

The rubber bottomed bathroom floor mats are a great idea. We have a few that we use on the boat. The help keep foot prints away and help stop slip and falls. My Velocity has a very flat deck, no rails and I keep it highly polished. The bath room mats are a life saver. But I do have to admit, when we take someone out and they get super drunk and act like a-holes, I make sure to send that person up front to help pull up anchor. I have yet had one of these drunks even make it all the way to the anchor line before sliding right off the deck into the water :lolhit: WHile this isn't a very nice thing to do, it has provided many entertaining momnets....

YEP...What he said!!! Not too many places you can smoke anymore. Especially the good stuff like in your pic. :ernaehrung004:

Plowtownmissile 03-27-2012 02:46 PM

I agree with a lot of what's been said.

I'll add that I will NOT tie up with a pontoon boat. I've seen too many people who don't care about their pontoon tear up someone else's glass boat tying up together.

If a pontoon shows up with people I know and what to tie up I let them dangel off my rear. The current keeps them away and we can pull them up to the plat form to tranfer people

Always take your shoes off!!! A few years ago on a poker run they had no dockspace avalible so I called my friend and asked if I could pull next to his skater he said go right ahead!! so as i am pulling up the dock guy comes down saying I have to ask to park here I go I did he goes "ok" so after I am at the bar I see a boat pull next to mine and the dock guy did not say a thing to him about parking by me. But what bugs me the most is that he walked on the deck of my boat with his shoes and left marks!!!!!

Shoes, or boots in this case, can also take paint off a boat. When the first F-4 was delivered down to LOTO, a salesperson from Raymond's (let's just call him Dick) stepped onto the paint right next to the step plate to enter the boat with boots on. The owner and Wayne S. were less than pleased to see a big junk of paint get pulled off by the boot. Mitcher T was also less than thrilled to have to touch up his new paint job.

f_inscreenname 03-28-2012 09:33 AM

On smaller boat my thing is when stepping out of or on is to try not to make the boat dip to bad by stepping on the gunnels. Seen it more then one time someone steps there, the boat dips down and under the bumpers then comes back up with rub rail a blazing into the boat next to it.

But you always get the wizard who knows best.

Be careful when other people do this. Guy in a I'd say nice clean late 80's boat had someone on his deck with a bag of ice that was leaking slipped and busted his windscreen. I was like WTF. Dude was pissed, said he was looking already and couldnt find a replacement.

If I was a passenger on someones boat I would follow their rules no doubt. On our boat, blast the music, dance anywhere and have a great time. I'm not quite sure about why everybody tries to keep people off the interior... it's meant to be used. We use our boat daily and always have tons of passengers and have never had a problem. As for smoking, please do it on the swim platform, and drinks that are going to stain if spilled are not allowed. Beers and clear drinks are no problem, I can wipe those up. If i spent every second worrying about if someone was stepping on the cushions / back seat / sunpad I would not have a chance to enjoy myself!

Every boat is different. I have a Jon boat that we throw around crab traps and chicken necks in but I would prefer that you didn't stand on the seats of my 1973 Nova. Just different uses.

all_the_toys2 03-28-2012 09:25 PM

A certain group of coast guard guys were not impressed with me when I asked them to take their boots off to get in my boat. Told me they could not remove any part of the uniform. Put towels down then went to jail for the next couple hours. Another group cool as hell and didn't bother even getting on the boat. Admitted they pulled us over just to check it out. Can't win them all but I was always told treat everybody elses stuff better then you treat your own.

oh 100% agree! also must consider ours is an average bowride and nothing like a lot of these boats.

Is it possible to decline a Coast Guard safety check? What are/would be the ramifications?

I say no, and don't want to find out!!!!!! If your on the up and up, what does it matter.

Tom A. 03-29-2012 10:40 AM

A very good point that has been brought up.

Fellow boaters for the most part are pretty good, it is the non-boater "friends" that don't have a clue and it is up to a responsible boater to inform them of proper etiquette.
I have seen the unknowing woman go to step on a boat in high heels! Scary stuff, pointy heels and boat decks don't mix!

If you are in a Federally navigable waterway [which is pretty much the majority of waterways] the answer is NO! you cannot decline a USCG or Customs safety check. They have broad authority to stop vessels for any reason....i.e...no probable cause required. The same cannot be said for State Agencies but they want you to believe that they have the same powers... which they don't!

Also if you are stopped get a receipt of inspection so if your stopped again later in the day by another patrol you will have proof of inspection. Show them receipt/report and go on your way.

It matters because I don't want my rights violated because some agency thinks they can stop me at their whim. That is for a thread boating etiquette for law enforcement on the water.

I know how you feel! I asked these girls to please take off their flip-flops before they boarded my boat and they were so drunk that they thought I said to take off their tops... It really irks me when people won't take their shoes off before they board! :picard1:
