Who can Modify dry tail pipes

They need to have 10 deg angle cut in them, bungs welded in and 8 inches added. Stelling is not doing anymore work. They are shipping them back to me. They have had them for 4 weeks already. Anyone know who can do this work. I even made tails out of 4 inch pvc to ship with exactly what I needed.

Hellbent 03-29-2012 03:21 PM

It's simple work...any local race car fab shop should be able to do it. Find someone nearby that builds chassis cars...drag cars or roundy-round shouldn't matter. Just be sure they know it's stainless ;)

I would think they would not know how to weld a pipe in a pipe

Huh? All you're doing is welding a bung between two pieces....correct? Do you have the bung?

Hellbent 03-29-2012 03:29 PM

I missed the 10 degree angle part. Why do you need a bung?

Sick Stinger 03-29-2012 03:36 PM

Even with a 10 degree angle cut any one with a tig and 1/2 brain can go it. Check around locally if not i can make a call for you

pstorti 03-29-2012 04:55 PM

i'm sure stainless marine here in miami can do it, but any decent machine shop should also be able to do it.

Face It 03-29-2012 05:00 PM

As soon as I get my tails back from stelling I'll take a pic of them and what I need. The bungs are need for exhaust temp. The angle is, now threy straight, they need drop in them

JIMKID Motorsports 03-29-2012 06:47 PM

There is a shop in Ohio that does Hardin marines tail pipes call jefe at Hardin in florida

Hellbent 03-29-2012 06:49 PM

LOL....I thought you wanted a bung at the 10 degree joint....I was about to draw up a cross section to show you how that doesn't work...lol. Now I understand you want exhast temp bungs installed. That's a super easy job for any shop with a tig welder. They fab custom exhaust every day. They just might not have stainless rod for their tig welder. Worst case you'll have to stop by a welding supply company and pick some up. I could do it all for you but there shouldn't be any need for you to ship them anywhere...there are plenty of chassis shops around Cinci.

These guys do custom turbo exhausts so they probably have everything needed:

Are you just wanting to change the outlet of the pipes, not change angles? If you just need to convert to or from dry pipes we can easily help you out with that! Shipping from Stelings to us will not be bad and we will ship them directly back to you. We currently have about 6 boats/tail pipe jobs at our shop from all around the country, our welders are the best! Give us a call! -Eric

You'll kick yourself for not buying a plasma sooner...lol. As your cutting your first piece you'll have flashbacks of every band saw blade you ever broke or the countless hours spent grinding out small areas or smoothing out torch cuts. lol

Is this shop you're speaking of in Ohio in or near the city of Concord? I used to know of a shop somewhere around Concord, Ohio and a guy named "Bob" who was in charge, and was very talentend with stainless steel for marine exhausts---pipe bends, angles and welds, etc., and had done a couple of mods for me years ago, but I have since lost track.

Thanks Everyone.....Here are some pic's. The first pic shows the 10 deg angle needed also need length added to them. The original ones are straight.

Bob Anspa up here near Eastlake. I'll try to find his number. He did all the gil stuff back in the day and now I think he still does the Hardin stuff.

Easy job. Take your boat right to a local shop and have 'em do it up. That way they can tack 'em...make sure they fit...then weld. There's nothing complicated about what you're doing. Any half way decent fabricator with a tig welder should have no problem with it.

Yeah, that sounds like the guy (Bob) I was talking about in my previous post.

My cousin bought some used GIL exhuasts and tailpipes, but the tailpipes needed to be lengthened and the angle modified to properly fit and go out the existing transom exhaust cutouts/holes.

So over the phone, Bob described the kind of info he needed and after getting the tailpipes back from Bob's shop my cousin bolted them up and all 4 fit perfectly----all this without having to take his boat to Bob's shop and these pipes needed some wild angles!

Bob can make just about any bend, curve, twist, angle you want and I remember him being very reasonable.

Biggus 04-05-2012 06:03 PM

Does anyone have Bobs contact information?

Thanks,

Kurt
