What sets this record apart from the drag boats?

Running for one kilometer instead of 400 meters.

And having an average speed of two runs in different directions. Not just one 1/4 mile run but having the ability to maintain the speed, control the speed and do it more than once without an engine rebuild.

drag boats have to back their record run up with in 1% on the same weekend of the set record so yes it takes 2 not 1 run to set a record . Bottom line they are both great records and my hat is off to all kinds of boats that go out and set the speeds. I was there the day Reggie set the v bottom record and i will never forget it. I have a problem with people saying the fastest in the world when it is in their class but not in the big picture . An offshore type of boat going 200+ is awesome but so is a topfuel hydro going 260+ difference is i would run the offshore boat at 200 , i would not get out of the electric chair to run the drag boat that fast and i used to dragrace boats.
