Need Gel Coat Advice Please

Applied a small amount of gelcoat to my boat to fix a cip in the gel, I put it on 4 days ago and it still did not set up yet, It has been raining here for a week now, very humid, what can I do to remove it or should I let it go until it drys up around here, I did use hardener, it's dry to the touch but when I tried to sand it, well you probably know. Help Please I even tried the Saran Wrap method to remove the oxygen.:(

If you put in too much hardner, it won't cure right as well. Sounds like maybe the wax additive may have been the way to go in your case. Try putting some heat on it with a hair dryer. Don't get it too hot though. Just enough to warm it up. If it is a small area, you may be better off taking it off and starting over. :(

what can I use to remove the semi harden gel?

If it is not cured try using acetone to get it off. Next time you do it use a mold release to cover the repair. Let the gelcoat set up for a few minutes first and use a spray bottle for the mold release. I think it is PVA Mold Realease but not sure. Gelcoat will not cure if exposed to air.

Is it good to cover repair with Saran Wrap of some sort?

Saran wrap will work but PVA mold release wax is pretty cheap and easy to use. You can get it at places like West Marine.

Hey Mike, I made a mention that the PVA acts like SARAN WRAP in another thread. I didn't actually say use Saran Wrap. I hope you didn't get confused? You can usually pick up PVA from a marine supply store. Just get yourself one of those little aerosol bottles that you can fill up and that should work great. You only need a thin film over the gel to do the job.
