Almost that time...summer beer

I went to the liquor store the other day & spotted the ”summer beer”
Leinenkugel summer shandy. This means boating season is also here!!

What other ” summer / boat beers ” are there ?
Summer brews only....no bud, coors etc

Yes I know everybody drinks / boats responsibly
& theres a thread somewhat similar to this.

I like oberon but only in draft form. No bottles on my boat!

Dave M 04-12-2012 07:44 AM

Sierra Nevada Summerfest.

Oh, and I don't worry about having bottles on my boat because I usually have my shoes on! :D

Tom A. 04-12-2012 09:18 AM

Glass Bottles off the boat:

Red Stripe!
Emperial (Costa Rica)
Blue Moon

On the Boat:

Coors Light new aluminum bottles! :)
Bud Light Lime aluminum bottles.
Miller Light Plastic Bottles

One of my favorite summer boat beers is Shiner Blonde Light.

What can I say, I like the light blondes :cool-smiley-011:

sommerfliesby 04-12-2012 09:33 AM

+1 for Oberon. I love that stuff.

fabin61 04-12-2012 10:55 AM

It's not really a summer beer but Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale is my favorite boating beer. They were the 1st Microbrewery to make microbrews cool in a can! NO BOTTLES.

I saw it in Pensacola last time I was down, but I've never been to Louisiana. The problem your going to run into is that it's not NEARLY as good out of a bottle. Gotta have a fresh draft.

OK, fill me in.....What is the capital crime of having bottles on your boat?

glenncal1 04-12-2012 01:54 PM

Some professional drinkers (pretty much everyone from Ireland) think Guiness is good winter or summer. At least thats what I heard.

nova26 04-12-2012 02:03 PM

OP Beer tastes the best to me...

fabin61 04-13-2012 10:50 AM

Oberon

What is this Oberon you guys are speaking of. Not familiar. Who brews it? what style? etc.

From personal experience, glass breaks! Broken glass makes a mess of bare feet!

Simple, cans can be smashed when empty. Take up less room. Room for more beer.

Bells Brewery, Kalamazoo MI. Best out of the keg, no way of knowing if the stuff in the bottle is from this year or last years left overs.

I think this is the beer Blue Moon tried to copy.

Bells has some really good beer! Summer Shandy is good, Bear Republic Racer 5 Glenfiddich 15yo ice and a little water, and a cigar, problem solved, see you tomorrow after a few of those!

I've owned a boat for 20 yrs. and don't ever remember that being an issue. Maybe because if I do have bottles, I either use a coozie or pour it in a cup.

That sounds resonable.

emmettfire45 04-13-2012 01:48 PM

Oberon, Summer Shandy, Corona. However my all time favorite is Red Stripe, I drink it all year...but it gets consumed at a staggering pace come summer time. Also for summer time out comes the coconut rum and pineapple juice, and the vodka filled watermelon.

And I may have a 6' tall inflatable Red Stripe bottle!

WildThing47 04-13-2012 01:59 PM

LOADED Corona...can or bottle...

Can, I always bring lime...

Bottle, I'll load em with Ketel Citron....

Eroc5150 04-13-2012 02:19 PM

Pacifico on the brink of freezing with a lime - yummm!
and +1 on the bottle koozie on the boat.

Since many are discussing non-beer, I will share my secret: It's called "The Box of Joy"

1 - Locking Lid Rubermaid Bin
1 Bottle Each - Jack, Captain, Malibu, Kettle, Patron
2 Litters Each - Coke, Diet, Club, Tonic
Assorted - Pineapple juice cans, Cranberry juice, Limes, knife, multi purpose bottle opener, cups, towels

This goes along with a cooler full of beer, a cooler full of ice, and another Rubermaid box full of chips and snacks.
Perfect for a NJ Poker Run weekend or Rendezvous!:eekdrop:
