Do all metallic silver boats look good
Was thinking of a metallic silver paint job on my boat, just wondering what everyone thinks a one color silver would look like.
|
Silver is a nice color, But what some people over look is it gets Hot, Really Hot in the sun. When Mixing Silver paint one of the main tint colors is Black, and it absorbs the sun just like a Black boat does.
|
Some look great some don't. And no black is not a main tint in silver.
|
I think silver looks great, but as with any paint job, the bodywork and prep determines how good it really looks, and you have to make sure your painter is really good and is not gonna stripe it when it comes to the flake, good technique is key, but an agitator cup helps. Also I think it really depends on the lines and trim of the boat, on silver boats, I prefer a shaved or painted rubrail, and curvy lines.

I cant post a pic @ the moment but my topside is silver/metallic grey.
If op wants a pic post a email addy, or if somebody wants to be a dear & post the pic ill email em. |
Silver as a large part of a graphic yes, silver as a stand alone color not so much. If you don't get the metallics to lay just right it will tend to look dirty or cloudy.
Just my two cents, I've never been a big fan. I have done a few but always as a two tone with white or something. |
Dave, what is the key to get it to lay right and look good

Mine does not get hot on the silver but the colors on the flames will burn the sh!t out of you in the summer sun.

Everything, because it is such a large uniform surface. Gun, technique, base, prep, quality of paint, etc. All adds up here. How big of a boat?

Dave, 30' boat, can u explain the steps specifically, using hok paint and clear, does it have to be sealed after its sanded, was going to sand with da and 600 grit, paint clear , 1500, then 3000 buff

Check the "less is more" thread elsewhere in this section for some examples of silver paint.
