What does your significant other think about boating?

Both my wife and I have grown up around the water and love all things nautical... But when it comes to boats, that's where we differ in opinion! She's the pontooon type that likes a lazy cruise to look at houses and drink wine. I am a full throttle kinda guy, but still respectful and safe. For me the boat is the "thing" to her its just a vehicle that gets her on the water. Just me talking about boats gets an eye roll. Most of my buddies who own boats significant others are the same way...what's it like for you?

the deep 04-15-2012 12:54 PM

I am also married to a CRUISER QUEEN . She loves the soft ride of the cat but keeps one eye on the tach and when it starts moving past 4000 she usally starts swinging unless i got a couple brews in her . Hence the ride along rev limiter . ...:lolhit::lolhit:
Opposites do attract , it's true .

Your wife and mine should hang out while we go tear up the lake. My wife hates the scarab and wants a larger CC or a cruiser. I can live with a CC if it runs at least 70:poopoo: I don't think I will win this battle until my kids are older.

VetteSteve 04-15-2012 01:09 PM

My wife does not boat often. She will come along if we are going to get something to eat and/or taking friends out for a ride. I to like to go fast but try to refrain when wife is on board.

blownhammer2000 04-15-2012 01:15 PM

wow, i must be in the elite zone then, my wife loves going fast i've never had the boat out without her, hell i've never loaded the boat on the trailer! she watches the weather and when a hot weekend comes she always says "i have gas points at giant" i know what she wants, i do love her love of performance boating, makes my life easier!!!

skate 04-15-2012 01:17 PM

We have a two boats in our dock. Hers is a 26' deck boat mine is a 28' Skater. Everybody is happy! She still loves to go for a bat run in the Skater thou so I count myself very blessed!

Comanche3Six 04-15-2012 01:19 PM

She doesn't care for powerboats at all.

FIXX 04-15-2012 01:47 PM

x2! she says i can get a bigger/faster boat:eekdrop: but she's just not interested in going for a fast ride:angry-smiley-038: unless she gets a few shots first then she's all for it:lolhit: she's always up for takin the boat out so i guess im lucky when it comes to that.

Me too. Mine loves the thrill, the speed and rough water. Even on the days I'm content sitting at home she's packed and saying c'mon we are hitting the boat. Doesn't even mind when its windy with no sun. :thankyouthankyou:

I recently introduced her to flying so now I'm screwed X2...:lolhit:

Racerngr1 04-15-2012 02:54 PM

Mine does pretty good, the only boating she has been exposed to is with me. I'm hoping to move into a bigger boat in 5 years or so. I would love to get her a ride on a couple different boats with speeds that vary to see how she does with faster boats than mine.

In the rougher water she likes the back seat so she can't see what water/swells/chop we are going to run through because she doesn't like the anticipation.

88242LS 04-15-2012 03:25 PM

My wife loves boating, not crazy about the rough stuff but was in her first poker run last year and now wants something bigger and faster so the push is on, :thankyouthankyou:

hotjava66 04-15-2012 03:49 PM

Mine likes boating but isn't into running hard or going fast. After riding along on a couple poker runs, she just decided to bow out of them and only go on normal rides.

Kristy and I have a true passion for motorized vehicles, especially boating! But she does not share the addiction to OSO! :lolhit:
I have caught her browsing the classifieds for high end/fast Cats, her fav!

She drives the Baja, Cruiser, jet ski's, wrenches, buffs, and looks good doing it!

I love dirty gals!! I have it great, the wife loves boating, never did it until she met me, loves riding, listing to music drinking, going fast but don't really like rough water...I have it good, now...if i can only talk her into a 38 pq avenger!!

dereknkathy 04-15-2012 05:14 PM

my significant other was unhappy when i let the 30 IMP go. she didn't understand aging TRS transoms and drives. she is part of the reason i bought my old Nova III back when it fell into my lap.

US1 Fountain 04-15-2012 05:37 PM

If I'm not in the car when it heads for the lake, the wife will leave w/o me.

fireguy 04-15-2012 05:48 PM

My wife loves boating too. Our motivation is different. I love the boats, the ride, the performance, all of the gearhead aspects. My wife loves to bake in the sun.

Although she is really quick to call me a ***** if I let someone pass me without at least trying them. Her heckling is what led to me being outrun by a pontoon boat. Granted it was a twin OB pontoon and went at least 75 but I still had to go back and tell all my friends I got waxed by a pontoon boat.

Perfect Storm 04-15-2012 06:02 PM

My ex-wife hated boating, but my girlfriend loves it! She even enjoys her duties as my line & fender biotch! among other things... :evilb:

seafordguy 04-15-2012 06:23 PM

Loves it. Always wants to have a Go-Fast. I am not even sure she'd upgrade to a 40SS.

She would some more "amenities" down stairs (and a little headroom). I think a NorTech 50V would be perfect for her; too bad she married a poor guy!

rfgonzo 04-15-2012 06:57 PM

My wife loves performance boats, not a big of cruisers & she loves to go fast. I very rarely hit the water without her.

GO4BROKE 04-15-2012 07:32 PM

My wife loves it, other than the constant eye out for the next one.

LOL. I have the bruises on my left shoulder to agree with that post.

It's all good up to 80 and then it gets risky to my health.

sonicss42 04-15-2012 07:48 PM

My wife loves all of it as long as I give her time to tie her hair back before putting throttles on the dash.

rumrunner29 04-15-2012 07:59 PM

I'm actually very lucky, my better half loves the go fast....told me she would leave me if I ever bought a slow boat. She also loves to back the trailer!! She doesn't share my obsession with finding the next one...or OSO..LOL

emmettfire45 04-15-2012 08:12 PM

My fiancee loves being on the boat, she digged the 21 Sea Ray I had. Shes working on her doctorates so she dosent have much time and hasnt been out on the new boat which is almost twice as fast and 100 times as loud ;). She dosent like the rough stuff and gets sea sick pretty easy but she toughs up and deals with it.

She has two weeks off and told me I had better be planning a trip for us, as long as she wants to go fast I think shes a keeper.

mikebrls 04-15-2012 08:15 PM

My wife love's to boat , but doe's not like me to spend or loose money :)

mike

FuelinAround 04-15-2012 08:18 PM

Mine doesn't hate boating at all but she does hate my obsession with them. I probably check the forums here 3-4 times a day and almost every weekend I take at least 4-6 hours to go to the shop and clean or fine tune something. When we are on the water drinks are flowing so life is good.

kjm5125 04-15-2012 08:55 PM

My wife prefers 50 GPS or under with waves 2' or less.

She got spoiled when we use to ski behind my Mastercraft in flat water.

87MagnumII 04-15-2012 09:17 PM

Mine is all for it and the kids live for it. The wife helps clean and wax it, she knows how to tow it and back it in, she's ok with speed up to about 50, much over that and I'm getting slugged in the arm. She doesn't understand my addiction to boats but she tolerates it because she knows I love it.

When we have the kids (ages 3 and 4) with us it's a little harder for her to enjoy because they constantly are wanting her to do something for them. When just the two of us can go, which is maybe once per season, she loosens up a good bit and I can let it run a little.

Padraig 04-15-2012 09:25 PM

My wife loves the Velocity. No problem going fast. She has just one rule...no hulls with steps. Looks like I will keep on with the Velocitys.

Yoda_Man 04-15-2012 09:51 PM

When I met my woman I had a 21' bowrider she liked it got into wakeboarding. A year later I bought a velocity 260 took it out a few times then came across a 322 baja for a good deal. Once she saw the 322 she said buy it. Now shes all about weekending and island hopping the gulf islands. The ride and the security of the twins along with the toilet and cabin make it the perfect boat for us.

Expensive Date 04-15-2012 10:04 PM

Its not her thing, but she likes going to Atlantic City for lunch if we take the inside. Not a real ocean person I did a poker run with her once the last 8 miles were in the ocean. Coming out of the inlet facing 5-6 footers told her to hang on I have to stay on top, the look on her face was priceless.

My wife loves boating, although I like to joke and call her a boat hater. I think she thinks I spend too much time with the ole girl ;)
