How accurate is NADA Boats these days?
Sold mine so I'll be doing a lot of researching for my next boat. Any input on NADA Boats values?
Thanks Dan |
Not very. But congrats on the sale of the Nova, that was a clean boat!
|
sold my 252 for right at NADA with my trailer.
Bought my 342 for 18-20k below NADA |
Ive come to find nada useless
|
I think NADA values are only half the price of what boats are worth. :D :D
I've used for property tax reasons. It is only a "guide" and should be used as such. Heck.....it's right in their name! :D |
I think that NADA just subtracts a specific percentage of the boats value every year for depreciation. It's not a very accurate guide of what a boat is really worth IMHO. Looking at the used market will give you a better idea.

I just purchased my boat 2 months ago so here's a reference....
Boat: 1988 Wellcraft Nova Spyder 26 with 454 mag/bravo 1--500 hours Paid $7500 including a tandem axle trailer (I thought this was a pretty good price). --Seller was asking $8200 NADA value: $9500 plus $1000 for the trailer: $10,500 BUC value: 10,000-11,300 without the trailer. Personally, I think my boat is worth closer to $9500 but there is no way to know if that is accurate or not. Very good condition overall except it does have bottom paint which for most would devalue the boat. |
just sold the 271, nada says 17140, ya thats not close
|
It's great if you are selling not worth a sh!t if your buying

Just paid exactly half of nada value for a 07 35 executioner. Its worthless.
|
Nada has only been useful to me when buying boats at auction. I would say that 95% of the ones that I follow end up selling within a grand of wholesale book number (not including options or trailer). Seems as if the buyers all use that number as their stopping point.
There is an exception to that. The idiot buyers here in the Dallas area buy wakeboard boats at auction all the way up to high retail. They are insane here. I have better luck buying them from the west coast and hauling back here to Texas. |
On the boats I've been looking at (~10 years old, 30k price range), the NADA value's are all 20k or less. Seems to be on the low side for that part of the market.

Banks/Credit Unions/Insurance use it |
When I got my loan for my boat first of this year the bank told me it nada'd at 191k without having to itemize any options :lolhit::lolhit::lolhit::evilb:
I think the older the boat the better chance of nada having a handle on being the closest to actual market value. |
I believe Kelly Blue Book uses registration (Tax paid) info to aid in their calculation
