Bottom line if you took this boat for a ride you would have no doubt that it is the best handling and fastest v bottom in its class.

Lets forget speed for a second, if speed was all that mattered then a top fuel dragster would win most forms of motorsports racing. You need to be able to apply the speed.

The new OL 29 is incredibly stable and has zero chine walk. It rides flat and turns like a formula one car on the water (OK that may be pushing it a bit :) But you get the point. When I was in the boat the bow never popped up and it never felt like it was laying over from chine to chine. It handled like it was trimmed for stability and handling not for speed. I would guess that it would be hard to get any boat to handle this good regardless of speed, it was really that good. The amazing part was that it felt that good even running at 98mph fully loaded. When you look at Mike doing the shootout it also looked like it was trimmed and set up for handling and not speed. It actually didn't look like he was going that fast at all but he was going 102mph. he made it look easy.

There is a reason a Ferrari with less horsepower then a Mustang will crush the Mustang in a road race and the same thing applies here. Even if there was a 29ft V that could run faster then the OL with same power it simply would not matter, the OL would run circles around the other hypothetical boat that does not exists.


I am a die hard Cat guy and said I would never buy one of those V bottom boats again until I rode in this. I can tell you from personal experience that this new OL 29 is unlike any V-bottom I have ever been in or seen run, period.


The guys at OL did a amazing job with real technology and real testing to set the new standard in V-bottom design, well done. Now I have to figure out how to buy one, LOL :-)

Oh and on the price, you guys are completely off basis that say it is too expensive. It is merely 30% more then other boats in its class that are slower, worse handling, and not nearly as solid. If a Ferrari was only 30% more then a Mustang it would the best value in the world. This OL 29 at $200k with the performance and options is the best value in the boat business. It should be double the price of its supposed competitors.

Congratulations to Outerlimits, it's great to see in this economy they are spending time and money developing new products. These threads are amusing we are comparing a full fledge race boat to a pleasure boat. Who care which one is faster, let's play devils advocate and say the Fountain is faster. Monday morning I cant go an order a Fountain, but I can go and order a Outerlimits that can seat 4 people and some gear.
Would this boat reach a broader marked if it ran 85+MPH with a Merc 8.2 and was under $150,000
I would like to see it compared to the Tuff 28 people call it a lake boat, but the running surface is 28'4'' which i believe is longer than the OL and the beam is 95'' (not 7' like mentioned earlier) I'm not sure of the deadrise 22.5 degrees ? Or cost, how much is a Tuff 28 with the same layup and a Merc 600?
What is the deadrise on the OL? Again kudos to Outerlimits for developing new boats.

Personally, I don't care about the top speed. What I would be really interested in knowing is how the OL runs in the ocean in say, 3 to 4's.

Has it been run in the ocean? I'd love to see it run to Catalina and back or up and down the coast for a 100 miles in some snotty stuff!

I agree with the comparison to the Tuff 28. That boat looks really nice, and I bet it would even look better with a paint job like the OL has (i love bright colors). I am super impressed on how FAST the TUFF is especially withOUT any steps in the hull! I bet that helps it handle good in the corners and the rough

There are a ton of people talking about how good the OL handles the water, I just dont see how a boat that small, and low profile can do that? Anyways, yeah, it will be fun to have some heads up competiton with fountain race boats, fountain pleasure boats, TUFF marine, etc. Its all in fun!

What about a jelly donut,or a Boston cream? No holes there..... Anyways the problem with this hole thread is what is the real market demand for a 28'-30' boat with a single motor? IMO I can not see big demand for buying new in this category. From what I see this is often the hot spot in the used market and often has a cap of $75k. I understand some guys want new and will spend $150,000-$200,000 but let's be honest how many per year? I think if a potential buyer looking to go 100 mph and is willing to spend $200k they are going to buy a bigger boat that will also have a bigger resale market. Many manufactures got out of building 30' boats because the cost was the same to rig add cockpit,gauges shifters etc. The only thing smaller was the 4' or so of fiberglass in the nose. So what is the savings to the manufacture or to the consumer? $5,000- maybe $10,000. I think the market has already proved this when times where good, to try to build these today with market conditions what they are good luck is all I have to say. Besides isn't OL busy with all the orders from the Aronow edition boats:lolhit: Raylar I agree with you build a boat this size and keep the price around $100k and you will sell them, I am just sure there is any money to be made. It is scaryt o say the least that our sport is be owing extinct.
