Let's be realistic. The outer limits is 1000 lbs lighter. Make them the same weight and the outer limits will get crushed. Period.

Pardon me, but You guys love to spend to much time bench racing and bullsh*ting about whose better and faster?
What I was trying to point out is that it is currently not extremely difficult to build a 30 foot pleasure V that with 600HP can run 98-100mph, Outerlimits just did that with the 29V and did a magnificent job! The problem in my somewhat minor opinion is that it has created a $225K + or so pricetag to the potential buyers. Yes, there are a few that will step up and pay that much for the Outerlimits 29V and for a small volume builder like Outerlimits it may help sustain and grow their business. What it won't do is sell a larger volume of this size and performance level boats to the rest of the potential performance boat market and provide a more affordable solid stepping stone for performance boaters wanting to move up at a more affordable cost and really help grow the industry and sport. The challange and brass ring will go the builder who acheives this kind of result hopefully with a new breakthough offering. JMO Best Regards, Ray @ Raylar |

JMO Best Regards, Ray @ Raylar Guys and gals that have much cash at all (for a boat) will typically still gravitate towards larger boats. That means some new but mostly used when you're talking performance stuff in the forceable future. The market that enjoys the 29' boat tends to still need a bank (mostly). |

I think the statistics and demograhphics may prove me close when I and others in the sport and industry say that "Bigger " performance boat buyers of the $500K-$1.5M purchases probably are 98% all cash buyers. These big ticket performance boats we are constantly seeing, reading about and hearing about only maybe represent 5% of the total performance boat market by number.
I think this means that the 95% performance boat owners who make up the rest of the market probably have maybe 85-90% make their purchases with loans plus down payments. Lets do a simple average example of a 25foot 65-75mph performance boat owner who purchased his original boat in lets say 2002 for $75K WITH A $25K down payment and a 10 year loan thats now paid off. He now really wants a bigger faster 85-95mph 29-30 foot boat. He sells his current boat for $40K and goes looking for that new 29-30 footer knowing he has maybe $40K or $50K for a down. Can he put that 40-50K down on a $225-$250K- 30 footer and get a loan for $175K to $200K with good credit and a good lending enviroment-most likely NO WAY!. Can he put that same $40-50K down on a $125-150K boat and get a $75-$100K loan with the same credit and lending conditions- most likely -YES. This is some of the market condition and the reason many in the industry feel the need for this 29-30 foot -$125-$150K performance single engine perfromance boat with 85-95 mph speed and comfort . Congratulations for Outerlimits in hitting a lot of the target with their great looking and performing 29V boat but I feel they are missing the mark of doing it in that lower price range the market really needs. Maybe its' not possible, I don't know but I certainly hope not! JMO Best Regards, Ray @ Raylar |
The only company left to do it is Checkmate!
Outerlimits makes an amazing boat, but they cost more then the average buyer can afford. Checkmate builds a great boat to. Everything a pleasure boater could possible need. |
not sure why this is even a thread, arguing about OL's 29' pleasure boat, with a cabin, vs a stripped down, built for speed fountain, with a canopy, a handfull at top speed, on the edge on every turn......
i owned an F1 2001 fountain race boat, it was fast, it was fun, it was stress cracked to no end, and it didnt handle even close to the video of Mike F running the OL a pleasure 525 fountain touches 83-84 on its best day..... if it had a 600 in it, would it gain 18 mph and hit 102 like the OL????? doubtful |
I bet that Tuff 28, which is a better looking boat anyway, would run 100+ pretty easily considering it did 95.5mph with a stock 525.
Of course, that's also a very expensive, bulletproof, light, and FAST boat so you're not really saving any money. |
