Help!!! the wife wants a cruiser

I need info! My wife is now thinking cruisers and I am thinking divorce! I need a performance type cruiser such as Powerquest. Has anyone had any experience with the 29' Envision. I understand this is a copy of the Pachanga hull. What about Mach 1's 29', it has a windshield right. I can't have anything with a faring. Please help I don't want to "go slow all the time".

fountain1fan 06-27-2002 08:55 PM

gfw you might like two look at a fountain 38 ec or a 31sfc not knowing how big of boat you want the 38 ec will run 70 + on hp500 mercs

obnoxus 06-27-2002 08:58 PM

Find a clean 340 Baja Yacht,,,502's it ran 55 + !!!!!

Ted G 06-27-2002 09:13 PM

Sea Ray SS series-the 31 has a great hull and has most of the ameneties. The 37 is really sweet, but slower. Of course some BIG power will get both of them flying:D

BadDog 06-27-2002 09:29 PM

You may consider staying away from the Mach 1. Saw some at the boat show a few years ago and subsequently saw them on the river. They fell apart. Just my opinion.

Check Harrisonmarine.com they have a 1999 43 Black Thunder that was repoed and you might be able to get a great buy!

Vyper340 06-27-2002 09:35 PM

Come on now.... we're missing the obvious solution. Get a new wife (one that likes OUR kind of boating).:D

Uncle Toys 06-27-2002 10:05 PM

Screw the compromise; use diamonds on her – worked for me:D

wwwTOPDJcom 06-27-2002 10:18 PM

The Diamond thing works , I gave her a Nice 1 carat on Feb 14
some roses and the next month I was boat shopping

jafo 06-27-2002 10:30 PM

If she just won't bend on the cruiser idea, meet her half way.:)
I'd agree on the Black Thunder- tremendous cabin and efficient hull. If you have to have more beam, you can't beat the Formula 40SS or 37SS. Pretty quick boats with HP500 power for their size- they use the Fas3Tec hull.

h2owarrior 06-27-2002 10:35 PM

How much do you want to spend ? Do you care if its new ?

Tell your wife if you buy a cruiser that it will be alot more cleaning to do, and nobody enjoys doing that.

MIdnightRider 06-28-2002 04:50 AM

I does not matter what you do, they will still find something to ***** about. You have a go-fast, "lets buy a cruiser, there's more room", you buy a cruiser, everybodies runnin', "this boat is to slow, I liked the other one better, we don't stay on this overnight much anyway". No matter what you do, it is no win. Get single, and go fast! Midnight:cool:

Indy 06-28-2002 06:34 AM

How about a Sunseeker Superhawk? Nice boat. There's one around here with twin 500s and does 70

turbo2256 06-28-2002 07:48 AM

LutzParty 06-28-2002 10:20 AM

We have a cruiser and enjoy it. It has a great dance floor. You can always have both the fast boat and the cruiser:D

wilerty 06-29-2002 12:35 AM

How about a Formula Sun Sport? They come in 260, 280 and 330. They'll go 55 to 60 and have a lot of room. Here's a link to the 330:

http://www.formulaboats.com/model.asp?id=330

Tonto 06-29-2002 01:51 AM

SeaRay!!!
Best dance floor you'll ever have :D. And a blender too....:p

gofastwannabe 06-29-2002 08:14 AM

Thanks for the Info!

Thanks guys for the input. I would love to have the Black Thunder or the Sonic but I am limited to 28' to 31'. I have tested the Sea Ray's and a Monterey as well and the are nice but "too cruisery" for me. I was thinking offshore style with full windshield and partial galley. If sonic's 28 had a windshield it would be a no brainer for me as they seem to be very comfortable. I am in the process of building a new home so I will most likely have to buy used. I love the formula's but i understand so does everyone else and finding a decent used one is difficult. I have been looking at a 29' Powequest. has anyone has experience with these? I also found a 32' Pachanga which is real nice but do not know how they ride or hold up. They seem to be very inexpensive! I have thought about some of your suggestions about the "new wife" thing but I want to keep 100% of all my sh*t! Plus she still likes to go fast and she still looks pretty good.

mcollinstn 06-29-2002 10:31 AM

I saw a pontoon boat in a magazine with two 225hp Yamaha outboards on it. Ran around 80. Had a fold up bathroom, too.
Maybe that's your ticket.

Formula 370SS or 400SS are absolutely fantastic crossover boats (I prefer the 370 since you only lose a smidge of midcabin bunk). They are pricey, though. Not sure where your budget figures are.

Might just need to nab a deal on a 26+ foot Rinker cruiser with genset and A/C. Then you keep the playboat also.

Aside from that, a friend of mine is selling a Baja 320Force with twins. It's a fairly ugly boat (colors and such) but has cavernous stand-up cabin with stand-up head and kitchenette in the front.

He's asking in the low-to mid $20k range. Boat is all there, but needs miscellaneous electrical attention (new batt cables, several minor wiring issues, stuff like that).

I have never seen the boat in the water, but I figure it'll run in the low 60's.

cuda 06-29-2002 11:12 AM

Speaking of the 320 Force, there is one for sale here locally by a marina owner. It looked in great shape, twin 500's I believe. He moved into a 47 Fountain with triples.

IDRPSTF 06-29-2002 03:13 PM

It all depends on the price and if you plan to trailer the boat. Formula has hit the nail right on the head with there SS Series. Dont go any smaller than a 330SS The room just isnt there and you may as well stick with a Go-Fast Boat at that point. Both the 37 and the 40 are Great Boats. The 400SS is like a fast maneuverable Apartment on the water. With 500EFI the boat can hit 60MPH. Formula does a great job with options to meet the needs of everyone in the family. From Central Vacuum to Cedar Lined closets. They have covered things you would have never thought of. There are a few great Preowned deals out on the West coast for the 400SS. But you cannot trailer them. For a large boat that can be trailered and still have all the Comforts of home try the upper Baja line. Baja has been coming back strong and building some impressive boats. There larger line has alot of cabin room and excellent finishing work. Sunseekers are nice but you give up alot of room for engine compartment. They are built great, run great, and look spectacular. A sunseeker is perfect for people who plan on spending alot of time on the deck and not down below. But if the deck area is where you plan on doing your entertaining then look into a Hawk. Good Luck.

Hutchinson's Boat Works in Alexandria Bay, NY recently took in a 1997 Formula 280 Sun Sport with a 7.4L MPI and Bravo 3 and are asking $42,000. Here's their web site:

Tell her if you cant have your go fast boat youd like to get a stock car, that way you can drive hundreds of miles every weekend so she can sit around a hot dusty old racetrack in the blazing heat while you rip around having a blast..........or get a big Baja

Flashback 06-29-2002 10:20 PM

I had a fast boat and my wife did not like it, so I bought a motor yacht. The change from lake boating to coastal boating has it pro & cons. The motor yacht was kept in a slip, so I did not have to worry about trailering and I was on my boat in the evening tru the night , when others were trailering theirs home. She always complained about the 3.5 hr drive to the coast. I ended up going down to the boat most of the time by my self and this got old, so I sold it and bought a fast cat. :D She said , she guessed this was her punishment for not liking the drive down to the motoryacht. Now she still does not go to the lake with me because of the loud noise and speed. Sooooo she will go before this boat does . I tried to please her and I did'nt work. I really liked the motoryacht too!. Maybe I should find a wife that likes the water and boating as mush as I do. Hell most women would kill for this kind of lifestyle am I wrong?

Powerquest was working on a 28' version of their suncruiser, they had it at the miami boat show pretty nice could get twin 6.2's or twin 350mags. Dont know if it ever went into production.

Flashback 06-30-2002 09:48 PM

Catmando
I have an 85 Chris Cat with 540 ci, 650hp ea with #2 speedmasters.

candyman35 06-30-2002 10:55 PM

I saw a cruiser in Michigan City. Its name was C:( MPR:) MISE! It made me think of this post. If you have to buy a cruiser go with a nice affordable 72' Sunseeker Predator.

Good luck with your decision.

Yep has windshield and compact, but functional cabin with enclosed head, galley w/stove & sink, seats, and v-berth. Not the fastest ride in town (60-62 w/502 mag) , but has 24 degree deep-v hull for a nice ride in the chop. Built with fiberglass stringers and xl-boat panel transom so it won't rot. Here's mine:
