bravo question

Can you have the engine running and put the drive in gear if you have the boat out of the water ?

Drivehard 05-07-2012 10:17 AM

As far as I know you can, as long as you have the muffs on it, and the hose out of the way.
Of course, you will have a prop spinning around which could be VERY dangerous!!!!
I have done this myself though...no problems noted.

Do it every year to make sure everything is working properly.

I do it too. But, never advance the throttle past idle.

Like to add,

Remove the prop!

Unless your the only one around!

also if you want to try reverse and foward make sure you do a long pause as that shaft will spin freely even after disengaged, best to even eyeball it to make sure it stopped before going in opposite direction

Do not run without water source! Even for very short time. If you have done this already you may want to consider changing the impeller before your next adventure out.

I was thinking the same thing but what happens when the boat is in the water and you are moving in one direction and need to go in the other like docking?

The water will stop the prop from spinning quickly. When it's not in water it will free spin for a while.

Pull the prop, why take a chance, I know cords, hoses, ropes, ect... have a evil side to them, they hate me and ALWAYS trip me up!! I will die by cord!

if the boat is moving the water will keep the prop spinning, on my boat when its out of the water the time it takes me to put it in neutral and walk back and look at the drives they have already stopped spinning.

That's what I do! I do a visual to make sure it stopped.
