525efi vs. 575sci vs. 620 teague
any comments would be appreciated....its for a 36 cat mostly freshwater, pleasure and poker running with bravo xr drives with sportmaster lowers. price is not an issue because they are all pretty close.

NO ONE?
COME ON GUYS .YOU ALWAYS HAVE GOOD OPINIONS!

The only motor I know a little about is the Teague motor (N/A 509 running a single 1050 Dominator). A friend had one in a DCB 26' cat. Pushed the boat 92 mph on gps. DCB also did a 34' with twin 620's. The boat ran 122 on gps. It is a strong well built motor, and it sounds very nasty. If you are paying the same for the Teague as the Merc motors the prices must have gone up. I think my buddy payed about 21k for his.
Something else to think about is warranty issues. I think Teague gives a year, and I think at least with the 525's you can get 5 years. I just bought a Top Gun with 500's and XR's and bought 5 year warranties on motors and drives. It is nice to have a little piece of mind with the warranties. I will say though that everybody I know running Teague motors (most blown) have had very good luck with them. |
25K PLUS 1500 FOR INSTALL KIT
IN ADDITION I GET A COMPLETE XR PLATINUM DRIVELINE FROM THEM ALL WARRANTIED FOR 1YEAR
|
25k for the motor and a Teague Platinum drive is a good deal. I have been running one of his Platinum XR's behind a 800 hp blower motor in a 26' cat for the past year. I have had no problems with the drive at all.
|
What company were you able to buy the warranties on the 500s from? Was it qguard/merc or a aftermarket company?
thanks |
I would buy the EFI motors 500 or 575 over the dual quad motors. 4 x 4-barrels are very inefficient. KE 675's are sweet! Why not 6 drives in a 36 with power, You'll break the bravos in a 36.
|
I purchased the warranties from another company (not Merc). I can't remember the name off the top of my head. I went through the dealership where I bought the boat.
Cobra Marty, The Teague motors are not dual quad motors, they run a single 1050 Dominator. |
DONT WANT THE WEIGHT OF SIXES OR THE EXPENSE
PLUS I THINK UNDER 600HP IS WASTE
|
A couple of things to add.
The 525 is closed cooling and has MPI injection. The 575 is a throttle body injection and uses fresh water cooling. I don' t know anything about KE except they speak well of them. I went with a single 575 because I wanted the ITS and when I sell the boat in a few years that Merc power will have a litle more appeal to the masses than a custom motor. |
WELL
I LIKE THE 525 BECAUSE OF 87 OCTANE,CLOSED COOLING,EXTRA WARRANTY, (6K CHEAPER)
THE 575: 92 OCTANE, SEAWATER COOLING, MAY NOT LAST AS LONG AS THE 525 BUT HAD 50 MORE HP AND ADDS RESALE |
I know of a 32 skater with 575's and is breaking XR's. I don't think skater will even build a 36 now with bravo drives. Good luck. Think that dual 650-750's dump fuel- wait til you see the single 1050- what a fire hose.
|
Buy the Teague...After some of the horror stories I've heard about those Mercury bastards I wouldn't trust any 5 year warranties....
|
compare
WHY NOT RUN THE TEAGUE 620 AND PUT A B-MAX BEHIND IT-OR AN IMCO MUCH STRONGER AND CHEAPER THAN EITHER MERC SET UP-YES-- I DONT KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH PRICE DIFFERENCE BUT I BET ITS THOUSANDS...LETS NOT EVEN GET INTO THE COSTS WITH NO.6--IDEALLY IF MONEY WASNT AN ISSUE THEN YEA NO.6--UP TO YOU BUDDY --REMEMBER DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME..SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHES NOT TO MENTION DOWNTIME..GOOD LUCK:cool:
|
Skater won't build any cats with the bravos anymore. There is a couple of b max drives that are in repair that were on a 36 hustler cat which didn't do any better than the bravos either. It will be cheaper with a lot less aggravation to spend the money in the beginning. I did and have had no regrets with 6's and 575's
