Custom Carpet (Beware!)

I had a custom carpet made by Matworks out of GA. They asked for a template to be made. Sent it to them wrote my name, color, top and bottom on the template. I thought I gave very clear direction. When I received the product it didn’t fit, I looked at it for a few minutes trying to figure out what’s going on. I flipped it over and it fits! I Called Matworks several times about the problem finally getting an answer of them telling me to send it back so they can inspect it. After another week goes by I get a call today telling me that they figured out what happened they cut the carpet upside down the template was not marked clearly and there is nothing they can do about it and if I want it fixed I will need to buy a new one. I need a little input as what I should do next. Thanks

File a credit card dispute. I am so sick of hearing horror stories about these scum bags in the marine industry.

credit car dispute, stop payment, file a BBB complaint.

mittens 05-09-2012 11:15 AM

they admit they cut it upside down and they will not fix? WOW.

unless they are blaming the customer for mis-labeling what was top and bottom.

fireguy 05-09-2012 11:26 AM

^^^What they all said.^^^

Sean 05-09-2012 12:43 PM

wow---was going to use them for my donzi carpet - may have to rethink that decision now...

J.B. Marshall 05-09-2012 01:24 PM

Oh Man! I was going to use them and decided to go with another company as of yesterday all because I read a positive post from another thread and his experience. Sure glad I did now, just hope the carpet I ordered comes in without issue.

Definitely do what the others already suggested.

That just makes ya want to choke someone....
But anyway put "The Matworks Ltd" in your post title and when its searched, this thread will come up.

US1 Fountain 05-09-2012 04:21 PM

Why would they not take care of the problem if it was their fault? That doesn't sound right.

AIR TIME 05-09-2012 05:01 PM

it looks like 40oz marine carpet , there cost to replace it would be cheap. I use to sell that type of marine cpt. what was the cost if you don;t mind telling us. also was it just a solid color. 'm going to be doing high end cocpit rugs this summer, after I get one done for the saber. but this is wrong on there part it sounds. I told people to just put TOP on the template if I didn't make it myself.post a pick of the backing maybe I could cut the neck off and adjust it. or are the bolster cuts off too. need more pics.

akaboatman 05-09-2012 06:03 PM

Hope this turns them upside down. I'm buying new carpet an sure want use them. :angry-smiley-038:

Nykamp 05-09-2012 06:47 PM

I have used them before and they did great work, seems like there has to be more to this story. They have been doing it for a long time.

offshore Therapy 05-09-2012 08:10 PM

Yes I don't know what they are thinking there has been no type of communication I call and the say I will get someone to call you back. And today the guy said I should have marked the template better its not our problem. The color is red and it's 63 sq ft $500.00. I have used them on two other boats and have referred a few friends to them with no problems.

offshore Therapy 05-14-2012 12:34 PM

As of today, still no response. I was told Friday the owner is really busy and will get back to me as soon as he can. I was also told I can email him and he may get back to me sooner.

GRH 05-14-2012 12:40 PM

I have had Matworks make three carpets for three different boats....never had a problem or complaint... but I did clearly mark left side right side front back this side up etc... carpet was of better then average quality & fit was exact..... sorry you had problems... I would think they would at least offer you a discount & accept partial responsibility..... seems only fair?

1 MAIDEN AMERICA 05-14-2012 12:52 PM

If "up" wasn't clearly marked by "their description", they should have contacted you. NOT guessed.

4mulafastech 05-14-2012 12:53 PM

That is just not right. If it wasn't 'clear' to them which side was up, then they should have contacted you for clarification prior to making the carpet.

dereknkathy 05-14-2012 04:58 PM

send them a link to this thread. sounds like they already lost 3 to 4 times what they made off of you.

tanner 05-14-2012 05:24 PM

Its just Karma... sending you a message to not cover up Lonseal with carpeting in a beautiful Cig that you have !! :drink:

39 Unlimited 05-14-2012 05:48 PM

Amazes me....with the power of social media today don't get why someone would risk their reputation like this. Sounds like an easy fix.

US1 Fountain 05-14-2012 06:01 PM

we need a a pic of the pattern before hanging someone out to dry.

soldier4402 05-15-2012 07:04 AM

i mean really whats the wholesale cost of carpet to them? To top it off they could probably save it and cut it up for something else someday.

Tonto 05-15-2012 10:45 PM

Just saw this, they do 20-30 templates a year for me, never had a problem, I'll check into for you

x2

US1 Fountain 05-16-2012 11:23 AM

Just how does one fug up writing "up' on a pattern? It's only 2 letters, count them, 2! :D

And you aren't going to write them mirrored so they are read with the pattern turned over face down.

Lets see the pic of the pattern.

J.B. Marshall 06-04-2012 01:35 PM

Any resolution to the carpet issue?

dereknkathy 06-04-2012 05:55 PM

maybe post a new thread in the beware section. good title; " Matworks won't cover their own mistakes". because if it wasn't clearly marked, they know they have a 50% chance of getting it wrong. unless you clearly marked top on the bottom by mistake...and from what they said, it wasn't clearly marked. they didn't say they cut it the way you marked it...DEMAND they send you back your template. i bet they will say it is gone.
