Great boat
not as fun as the Cig better than the cig to party on pain to tow with 525's it will do 60mph but feels like 30 very solid boat at least my 2006 model is |
wish I had one too, but would test drive before buying... effraid of the slow feeling too... but I might be wrong!
|
if i could only own one boat, it would be a 400ss with 525s or if the numbers worked out with #6 drives and 700s. owned an 08 hardtop with 496 HOs back in the day and loved it.

Wow! Ilmor's would be a great package. Would they cost more or less than Merc's 700?

Personally, I prefer the boat with the new 400 hp Volvo Penta diesels, but Formula has built two 400SS's with Ilmor 725/Indy packages that ran 70 mph. The 725's burn w-a-y less fuel than the 700's, and come with stronger drives.

When I bought the 400 I thought it would be a great all around boat, still had speed, full bathroom , comfortable to sleep on, trailerable,
When we went on poker runs we could take more people, when tying up we had all the comfort you can ask for, plus nothing like having your own ice maker on board, great stereo, just a fun boat. At home it stays stocked so just walk down the dock and relax. Even great to just sleep on. Just the other night we had friends over for dinner and just decided to go for harbor cruise, made for great evening. But I still missed the cig, even thou I towed the formula to some of the poker runs there were a few we didn't go to. This year we will be going to a lot more, even hauling the cig out to the east coast, can't miss key west So I guess what I'm saying is the best option is a cig and 400 it's the perfect setup |
I have been looking at the 40SS, it's a great looking boat,
And you can do a lot with it. Just don't know if I will miss the speed? |
I have a very nice black 40 ss with 525 and bow thruster.

Well another advantage of the 400, since it's parked in the back yard we went out to breakfast saturday and then decided to head down the coast, before we even got 500 ft i saw a whale breaching. of course we didn't have a video camera of that but did get this pic.
Since we didn't have alot of time sat we never would have taken the Cigarette out and would have missed this. |
If you can afford it and got the room, a 400ss and a ZrComp, Gladiator or other compact go fast.
Best of both worlds. I have one friend who has a 400ss and Gladiator and he has the best of both worlds.Time for each, that is a different story. C-Spray and another friend of mine will probably own one soon because they are a good blend of speed and comfort. In fact, my other friend who will remain nameless is selling a very fast cat and plans on doing the 400ss and ZrComp combo. |
Ours may be listed later this summer. 2007 blue imron, almost every Formula option including Volvo diesels and hardtop. 150 hours. Still has formula guard warranty!

Interesting comments. I'm thinking 40 SS or Sunseeker Superhawk. And a 40 Skater so I won't miss the speed! :drink:

I'm starting to look now too
took 5 years to find my exact desired 336 ( 1 of 5 built with 525sc's in 95.) my perfect formula is a 40ss ( or maybe 370) with blue motors and surface drives. I can trade off some speed for the coolness of the rooster tail. and the marina life seems intriguing to me. would be a fun project to convert to arnesons, but afraid the cost will be prohibitive......
