A 305 Chevy is a 350 Chevy w/a destroked crank. Swap cranks and your 305 is now "one of" THE best if not "THE" engines of all time.
The 301 Pontiac was THE worst V-8 of all time. Bought an '80 Buick off my dad w/one. Gm got sued back them for swapping motors between breeds. I towed a 19' O/B behind it and it was the weakest pc of crap I ever drove.

Same stroke, different bore. They tend to have different cylinder heads as well.

I know they went from 262's to 400's w/the same architecture and I was thinking the 305 was stroke.
I had a brother in law that raced a Outlaw dirt car in a class called "Econo Sprint" that were based on 305's. I watched him race and they were bad SOB's!
In the day you could get a 305 w/a 4 bl that was 230 HP's and a pretty decent package but based on product placement it didn't do much. i.e., 4.3 V-6 4 bl @ 205 HP's or a 350 4bl @ 260.
