Solid engine mount alignment question.
 

Just curious.

I have solid front engine mounts in my Fastech 382 like the picture.
These bolt right up to the engines.

If the new engines need alignment for the drives, how do I do it?

I don't see where there is room to move in any direction?

The only thing I can think of is to use shims?

If that is the go - are pre-made shims available or do you have to make your own?

My fountain had offshore mounts and I had to change the stack up of washers on the rear mounts to get the alignment correct. Is this for a bravo setup?

the only to correct the engine aleignment is to get new alunimum angle and redrill the holes that go into the stringers but leave the motor plate holes blank until you get the engine in the boat..you will need to set the trailer on jack stands when aleiigning the engines or it will be off..

Is the alignment off? As long as it was set up right in the first place, there shouldn't be a need to adjust it. Just be sure that you have the fiber washers and springs installed correctly on the rear mount. Without them, you will really have problems getting it lined up.

I think he said he has new engines going in, Eddie. Is the machining tolerance that close that they should still fit? I've avoided this mounting system because of the lack of adjustability.

Basically I bought a boat with no engines, ( no nothing actually - lol! ) bought some new engines, bought some engine mounts that matched what the boat was set up for.

Had the engines put in the boat ( not aligned ), the legs put on & shipped it home.
Now she is home, I have to rip the legs off and check the engine alignment(s).

I just thought I'd ask the question as I like to have some idea how to tackle the job before I start.
Usually makes it easier that way, or I spend more time scratching my head, than actually working!

Never really have to change alignment when swapping engines unless it was off to start with. GM blocks are all pretty much the same. Adding washers to the back mounts is definitely not the way to
align the engine. If you have to do that something is wrong with the mounts.

Absolutely. The only way it should be off is if it never was right to begin with(which you will never know) or if the block was align bored to death.

The important thing is to have the original mount plates, since that is where the tolerances come in. If you have the original plates then the engines should be perfect. My boat has had three different engines, same plate, no alignment issues.
