Dang, why didn't I think of this first!!! My motor is fixed!!!!!

Well, I did the oil bypass thing Friday and ran it on Saturday. Same problem. Oil temp went to 260 in a big hurry. So, as I idled back to the marina I got to thinking.....(this can be scary some times, ask anyone who knows me!!).......you're a smart guy Mike, you went to college (and even graduated), and you know motors. If it runs well, doesn't seem to burn the oil or blow it out anywhere, what else is there??? Temp Senders!!!!!!

When we built this motor we had to move the location of the water temp sender from the intake to the t-stat housing. And when I tried to get the oil temp sender off, the center of it spun and I simply replaced it with a spare sender. Well, when I put them back in, I put the water temp sender in the oil temp sender hole, and the oil temp sender in the water temp sender hole. Duh!!!!!!!!!!!! I switched them back and viola!!!! Oil temp went back to normal, and I had water temp finally. Now, I can run all day long (which I did yesterday and today) and the oil temp never goes above 215 or so and the water temp stays at 150. Even at more rpm, the oil never gets above 230. Cruising at 3600-3700 rpm it runs at 210 and stays there. Perfect!!!!! Put nearly 5.5 hours on it this weekend without a hicup. :D :D :D :D :D

You were looking for Zebras when you should have been looking for horses!:D

I did a similar thing when I installed closed cooling. The hole the sending unit went in was a different size, so I bought one that fit, never thinking there were different resistance for different guages. Kept showing hot as hell, but I knew it wasn't because it would have boiled over. Bought a fitting to reduce the size and reinstalled the original.......160 degrees all the time now.
