2012 Shootout lodging recommendations

We waited to long last year to plan this, so we would like to book something soon, we are just driving or flying down without a boat, (6 of us) any suggestions... maybe walking distance to the festivities

thanks,

Have stayed 2 times , great place nice people , clean , with a boat the slips were short and narrow and kind of rough for a 42 ft boat facing the channel unprotected , its about the closest to the viewing action as your going to get without a boat you can sit right on the docks or in the pool granted the shootout run is on the other side of the channel , great bang for the buck . Like they said you should really take the time and take your boat you can cruise for miles and miles and hit allot of fun bars and people without a boat you feel kind of left out and wish you did , believe me Ive done it .

I really wish I could take my boat, just dont want the hassle & expense of towing it there.. we booked an 8 person cabin with Bruce from Sunset Inn, super nice guy, & he's going to hook us up with his pontoon boat to get up close to the run, cant wait!!!!!!!

Great rates , we have had the 42 there a couple of times and used the ramp I have no problem with that but the slips are to narrow and to short , I would love to go there again if I could use someones dock around the backside in the cove .

575cat 06-05-2012 01:06 PM

Is there another decent resort around that has there own ramp and enough room to maneuver a large trailer around , we have stayed at Robbins last year but it was tight as hell not large trailer friendly and large slips .

Launch at the State Park and leave your trailer in the lot. It is a good place for both.

How in theeeee hell are you going to pull that off the ram is good like threading a needle but the slips are only maybe 9 wide my fountain would barely fit in fact I scraped a couple years ago , and they are short , on my boat from the windshield forward stuck out !!! unless they built some new ones I dont know , Yah I called today about a half hour after you and he said they were booked :angry-smiley-038:

Way smaller ramp than Tan tar a's ramp don't even try it. I put my 26 nova in there ONE time. Too steep and tight. What about a cab ride back to your truck at PB2?

Very few resorts have ramps that are well suited for anything over 25-30'. You can use PB #2, and either leave the boat there for an hour, drive your truck to the resort and catch a cab back to PB #2 or leave the truck and catch a cab back to get the boat.

How far is it from TanTarA to Capt Ron's by boat?
If anyone can let me know, it is appreciated!

OzarkKing 06-11-2012 09:30 AM

Tan-Tar-A is at the 26 mile-marker and Capt. Ron's is at the 34 1/2 so 8 1/2 miles. During the Shootout the no wake zone will start just past the 31 mile marker.

We stay at Kapilana. Very close to the ramp at PB2, it is an older complex so you do not have to be a mountain goat to carry stuff to and from the boat, and the prices are reasonable. To boot, it is within walking distance of Randy Wilds party at Dog Days Friday night (don't miss it!).

If you need to get a truck over from PB2, we can drive you back over to get it if you wish. We will be there Wed through Sunday.

I think the website is Kapilana.net
Tell Neil that Jeff sent ya! (I get nothing out of it but brownie points)
